Wiener roasts, s’mores, bush pies and banana boats, with a campfire burning you’ve got lots of options. Elm firewood isn’t one of them. There is a strict “no elm firewood in Saskatchewan” rule. Firewood is one of the biggest spreaders of Dutch elm disease. Elm bark beetles and other insects can easily hitch a ride on infected firewood.

Don’t let your woodpile be a problem.
• Don’t transport firewood when camping.
• Avoid elm when cutting or buying firewood.
• Don’t store pruned elmwood.

Learn more about Dutch elm disease at https://www.saskatchewan.ca/business/agriculture-natural-resources-and-industry/forestry/forest-health/dutch-elm-disease.

Learn about the tree disease and what you can do to stop spread the disease. Apply for a permit to prune elm trees.
