🍂 August in Review

August was filled with connection, learning, and meaningful progress.
I had the opportunity to join Team CarePal at the AgingINnovation Conference. Team CarePal provides an incredible service that helps family caregivers stay connected, coordinate care, and feel better supported throughout their journey.

Closer to home, I’ve been working alongside the Caregiver-Centered Care team to build the Alberta Caregiver-Centered Navigation Network (ACNN). This provincial hub brings together people and organizations providing navigation services to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and find better ways to support family caregivers across Alberta.

I’m grateful to everyone who reached out to Nana’s Navigator this month—for support, to expand their network, explore collaboration, or learn more about our work.

On a personal note, we’ve also enjoyed some special time camping with family and friends and visiting family in B.C. These moments have been a wonderful reminder of the importance of slowing down and making time for the people who matter most.

There is so much taking shape, and I’m excited about what this fall will bring!

TWO YEARS OF NANA’S NAVIGATOR 🤍

Two years.

I honestly have a hard time putting into words what these past two years have meant to me.

When I started Nana’s Navigator, I knew there was a need for something different. I knew seniors and their families were trying to navigate a complicated system, often while already feeling overwhelmed, worried, or unsure of what came next.

What I didn’t fully understand was just how many stories I would be invited into.

I’ve had the privilege of listening to seniors and Care Partners, helping families understand their options, connecting people with resources, and sometimes simply saying:

“You don’t have to figure this all out today. Let’s start here.”

Because Nana’s Navigator isn’t just about navigating a system.

It’s about people.
It’s about dignity.
It’s about making sure no one feels alone.

And that includes Care Partners.

Care Partners need to be heard, supported, and included as partners in the journey. Their questions matter. Their wellbeing matters. They matter.

Two years ago, Nana’s Navigator was an idea.

Today, it is a community connected by a shared belief that **seniors deserve to be heard, supported, respected, and treated with dignity, and Care Partners deserve that same care and support.**

I am incredibly grateful to every senior, Care Partner, family member, community organization, and professional who has trusted me, recommended Nana’s Navigator, shared my work, or welcomed me into your community.

Thank you. Truly.

There are more conversations to have, more communities to reach, and more people to remind:

You don’t have to navigate this alone.

I'm excited to share that I'll be presenting at the ACCA 2026 Annual Conference, taking place October 7–9 in Calgary!

Together with Team CarePal and our partners, we'll be sharing how co-design with care partners is shaping a connected support model that blends technology with the human relationships families value most.

Our session explores how a shared digital pathway can better support care partners, navigators, continuing care providers, and rural communities—connecting people to the right information, resources, and human support at the right time. We'll also share lessons learned from real-world implementation across Alberta and how technology can strengthen, rather than replace, relationship-based care.

I look forward to connecting with colleagues from across the province and continuing the conversation about the future of continuing care.

As another Alberta summer winds down, it's a wonderful reminder to slow down and enjoy the people who matter most.

Whether it's sharing a meal on the deck, taking a walk around the lake, gathering at the family cabin, or simply enjoying an ice cream together, these moments become treasured memories.

For many families, summer visits are also when they notice changes in a loved one. Maybe Mom seems a little more forgetful. Dad isn't getting around as easily. Or perhaps you realize they've been managing more on their own than you thought.

These observations don't have to be a cause for panic. They can be the beginning of an important conversation.

Why does attending a conference like AgingINnovation matter?

Because meaningful change often begins with a conversation and sometimes with seeing a different way of doing things firsthand.

Along with sessions on aging, dementia care, communication, and technology, I had the opportunity to tour a Green House home. Seeing this smaller, more personal approach to care reinforced how thoughtfully designed environments and relationships can support dignity, choice, and a true sense of home.

Some of the most valuable moments also happened between sessions connecting with people who are passionate about their work, sharing challenges openly, and exploring what we might accomplish together.

I returned home with new ideas and relationships that I can bring into my work with organizations, communities, older adults, and care partners here in Alberta.

My notebook is full, and so is my heart. 💛

Nana's Navigator offers engaging, informative presentations that help people better understand the resources and supports available to older adults and those who care for them.

Whether you're a seniors' centre, retirement community, library, faith group, community organization, or care partner support group, we'd love to connect with your audience.

Presentation topics can include:

Still riding the energy from AgingINnovation 2026: Peak Purpose 🏔️✨
A room full of people redefining how we live and age — and I got to speak on two panels: one on hearing & communication, one on cognitive decline & dementia.

One thread ran through both 🧵 communication is what holds care together, and technology should know when to hand off to a human — never replace one.

Thank you to the AgingIN team for building a conference that feels like community 💛

To everyone who made this week what it was — the conversations, the ideas, the reminder of why this work matters — thank you. My notebook is FULL.

Shoutout to my Constant Caregiver guys Kevin, Alex and Chris — grateful to be building alongside you 🙌
