Think Private Browsing Makes You Invisible? Think Again

A lot of people think private browsing mode makes them invisible online. It doesn't.

Here's what private mode actually does:
It stops your browser from saving your history, cookies, and form data after you close the window.
Chrome calls it "Incognito"
Edge calls it "InPrivate"
and Safari calls it "Private Browsing"
All do basically the same thing.

What private mode DOES NOT do:
- Make you anonymous online
- Hide your connection from websites you visit
- Hide your activity from your internet provider
- Hide you from your work/school/public network
- Protect you from malware or keyloggers

Private mode keeps the device clean, not you hidden.

When is it actually useful? Using a shared computer (like a library or friend's computer) and you don't want to leave your history behind. That's about it.

Want real privacy online? That's a bigger conversation. Give us a call and we can chat about what that actually looks like for your situation .🔒

A customer brought in her IMac this week because it had gotten so slow she stopped using it. She tried downloading "cleaning software" to try and fix it but it only made things worse.

Here's what was actually wrong: A failing hard drive. One simple fix, and her computer is running like new again.

Why this matters: If your computer suddenly gets slow or has gotten slow over time, and it's has a mechanical hard drive, this is almost always the cause.
Installing a new solid state hard drive is the solution.

Sometimes it's worth the upgrade and sometimes it's not, really depends on the computer and it's age.

If your computer's been sluggish, bring it by. We'll take a look, find out the real cause of the slow down and give you our recommendations.
