Every year on April 28 we pay our respects to, and remember, the workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents.

Sadly, Alberta lost 161 people [PDF, 0.40MB] to workplace injury or illness in 2022.

On April 28, we remember. Take a moment to honour people like Lorelai, whose life was lost in a motor vehicle accident while on the job. Watch this video about Lorelai’s inspiring life as her mother, Sue, talks about the impact she made in her family and her community.

Today is the International Day of Mourning. Today we take time to rememeber those who have died in a workplace incident or from a Occupational disease/illness. 178 people died in 2021 from work related illnesses or injuries. In a year where most people were at home that number is extremely high. Many of these people died from Occupational diseases. Many of these were respiratory illness and cancers caused by not wearing the proper PPE for the task. Many were impacted 15 plus years ago and are just now becoming ill. Protect yourself today for a better tomorrow.

Tonight the high level Bridge will be lit in orange to remember those we have lost and to think about those living with an Occupational disease or injury.

So many things we work with can cause us harm and many things we do can cause us injury. Adopt the "We Care" attitude at your place of employment. It is the philosophy that when we all care about each other and eachothers families we will all go home safe and unharmed.
