The photo shows a silver medal. Anyone who follows Flávio Reitz knows how much road fits inside it.

At the Paracanoe World Cup, on the Olympic basin in Montreal, Flávio crossed the 200m as the second-best KL2 paddler in the world. He's a Brazilian athlete, and this time the water felt like home ground for us too: the podium happened right here in Canada.

A medal isn't born on race day. It comes from consistency, from the training nobody sees, from the people who believe before results show up.

What says the most about Flávio, though, is how he carries the win. "Nobody gets there alone," he wrote, sharing the medal with his coach, his team, and the Brazilian delegation, which left Montreal with 8 medals: 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. Then he reminded everyone, in his own way, not to worry, because everything works out.

Flávio is part of We Nature, our project that supports people and initiatives connecting sport, nature and community. Backing his journey is one of the ways Core Case lives its commitment beyond the product.

The wood that becomes a core box was once a tree, and that tree was a home before it became a plank. In large-scale drilling programs, that adds up to hundreds of thousands of boxes. At scale, it turns into deforestation, and deforestation means forest lost, the home of those who lived there.

Long before any map drew this land or any mine touched it, memory and respect were already here.

On June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Core Case honours the First Nations.

Their ancestral knowledge of the land and their care for natural cycles offer important lessons for the mining industry, and a horizon worth listening to as we keep reflecting on what conscious exploration means today.

We honour their history, their cultures, and the contributions that continue to shape Canada.
