Not every call involves a hose. 🦉

A few weeks ago while on shift at Hall 8 in Yaletown, a crew responded to this little guy on the sidewalk having a tough morning. Meet a Northern Saw-Whet Owl — one of BC's smallest owl residents.

He's now resting and recovering with the team at OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in Delta. Great work by our members, who took care of this little guy both on and off duty.

And a massive thank you to OWL as well for their amazing work, taking care of our amazing BC birds of prey.

Good look and much safer turnout gear for Port Coquitlam firefighters.

Here's our Port Coquitlam Firefighters - IAFF Local 1941 with their new PFAs-free turnout gear! 🚒

“Port Coquitlam is proud to be the first in the Tri-Cities to equip our firefighters with PFAS-free turnout gear,” said Brad West, Port Coquitlam. “Reducing long-term chemical exposure is an important step in protecting the health and safety of our firefighters as they serve our community.”

Probation Complete – March 24, 2026 🚒🔥

On March 24, 2026, eleven Delta firefighters officially completed their probationary year and are being presented with their badges by our Battalion Chiefs — marking the transition from Probationary Firefighter to Firefighter of the Delta Fire Department. 👨‍🚒

Over the past year these members trained extensively, responded to incidents across our community, and worked alongside crews throughout the department to develop the skills and professionalism expected of Delta Firefighters.

A sincere thank you to our Training Division for an excellent year of instruction, mentorship, and evaluation. We also recognize the captains and crews who worked with these members throughout the year, helping guide and support them along the way. 🤝

In a meaningful tradition, Battalion Chiefs have presented badges to these members, symbolizing our most senior leaders welcoming our newest firefighters into the ranks.

Please join us in congratulating the following members who successfully completed probation:

380 – Jarid Van Humbeck
381 – Jordan Pastro
382 – Jack Webber
383 – Matthew Bicknell
384 – Samuel Clare
385 – Joseph Collier-Pandya
386 – Stephane Obergfell
387 – Matt Luong
388 – Rayman Bassi
389 – Pattawe Hassakan
