Increased awareness, followed closely with gratitude and appreciation, is the biggest boost I have experienced towards true diversity and inclusion within a team. Working closely with Ericka Kelly has taught me all three.
Awareness comes with intentionality. It does not happen automatically by simply hanging out around people who are different from yourself. Every one of us in unique and brings something different to the table. Diversity is part of the fabric of life. The key is to learn how to recognize and value that diversity.
A healthy culture embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion develops when we make time for exploring the real conversation together in a safe environment. It takes effort to learn how to do this.
