Motherhood is filled with contradictions.

It causes us constant guilt, while bringing us infinite joy.
It is filled with uncertainty and fear, while also showing us a strength and courage that we didn’t know existed.
Kids will push our buttons and test our patience more than anyone else, but we would walk through fire for them without a moment’s hesitation.
We feel overwhelmed and crave time to ourselves, but we feel sad and like a part of us is missing when they aren’t around.
𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑒’𝑙𝑙 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑜, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑘𝑖𝑑𝑠 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑒’𝑙𝑙 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑜.

Motherhood is filled with contradictions.

We grieve the prior versions of our children, but also love and cherish who our kids are in the present.
It is the greatest responsibility of our lives, while also being the greatest privilege.
We teach and guide our kids, but our children are our greatest teachers of all.
It robs us of our identity, while molding us into a better version of ourselves.
𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑚𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠, 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑜𝑠, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑢𝑛𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝑎𝑠 𝑤𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑎𝑠 𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠, 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑦.

Motherhood is filled with contradictions.
It will bring us our highest highs and our lowest lows.

Motherhood is filled with contradictions.

But the love…

Boys need their mama.
They need her protection, her unconditional love, and her warm hugs.
Boys need their mama.
They need her strength, her confidence, her empathy, and her guidance.
Boys need their mama.
They need her to be their safe place, their confidant, and their listening ears.
Boys need their mama.
They need her to be their biggest cheerleader.
Their biggest supporter.
Their biggest fan.
Boys need their mama.
They need her to tell them when they aren’t making the right choices and guide them to those right choices.
Boys need their mama.
They need her to be there for them throughout every part of their lives, with grace and patience.
Boys need their mama.
They need her to be her best self by taking care of herself as often as she can.
Boys need their mama.
They need her and she needs them.
Their bond is precious and irreplaceable.
That’s why boys need their mama.

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐦.

When I’m feeling tired,
I remember that I was chosen,
and I pull myself out of bed.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed,
I remember that I was chosen,
and I find the strength to keep going.

When I’m feeling frustrated,
I remember that I was chosen,
and I try to be more patient.

When I’m feeling down,
I remember that I was chosen,
and I pick myself back up.

Whatever the situation,
whatever the circumstance,
I remember that I was chosen,
and I work through my struggles.

I make many mistakes,
and I don’t have all the answers,
but there isn’t a moment that I don’t feel blessed.
