Not all praise is created equal! Instead of saying “Good job,” try behaviour-specific praise by describing exactly what your child did well.

✅ “Great job putting your shoes away when I asked!”
✅ “I love how patiently you waited your turn.”
✅ “You worked so hard to finish that puzzle!”

Behaviour-specific praise helps children understand which actions are being recognized, making it more likely they'll repeat those positive behaviours in the future. It also builds confidence and strengthens motivation.

💡 Tip: Be specific, immediate, and enthusiastic. The clearer the praise, the more powerful it is!

Learning a skill is just the beginning. The real goal is helping that skill stick and be used independently across everyday environments.

In ABA, we focus on maintenance (continuing to use a skill over time) and generalization (using a skill with different people, materials, and settings). By practicing in natural routines, varying learning opportunities, and gradually fading support, we can help build meaningful, lasting independence.

Small steps practiced consistently can lead to big successes in daily life. 💙

🎒 Before we remind them of their tools, let’s validate how they feel.

The first day back to school can bring excitement, nerves, uncertainty, and big feelings — sometimes all at once.

Before saying “Remember to use your strategies,” try starting with:

💛 “It makes sense that you’re feeling nervous.”
💛 “Going back after a break can feel really hard.”
💛 “I’m here with you.”
💛 “You don’t have to feel ready right away.”

Connection comes before correction.

When our kiddos feel heard and understood, they’re often in a much better place to access the skills and strategies we’ve worked so hard to teach them.
