Most people try to organize their outdoor spaces by jumping straight into bins and storage solutions.

But if the space hasn’t been properly decluttered first, the systems usually don’t last.

In the before, everything lived on the floor, which meant the vertical space wasn’t doing any work and the room felt more crowded than it actually was.

The goal here was simple: build a storage system that works with the space.

We added shelving to lift everything off the floor and make full use of the height in the room. The existing bins were a great starting point, so instead of replacing them, I sourced additional bins to match so everything could be fully contained and consistent.
The shelving was arranged in an L-shape so all of the utilities along the walls remain easy to access — which is something that always needs to be considered when organizing storage rooms.

Now everything is labeled, contained, and easy to find. And because the layout was planned intentionally, they even have room to add more storage in the future if they need it.

The space didn’t get bigger.
The system just got smarter.

They thought they needed more space.
They needed a better system.

This is something I see all the time — rooms that technically have enough square footage, but still feel crowded, hard to use, and slightly frustrating every time you walk into them.

Not because there’s too much in them.
But because nothing is set up to work together.

In this basement, everything was pushed along the walls, stacked on the floor, and loosely grouped. It looked “put away,” but it wasn’t functional.

Once we cleared it out (and made way for an epoxy floor upgrade), we rebuilt the space with intention — using vertical shelving, consistent bins, and a layout that actually made sense for how the room needed to function, including access to utilities.

The result isn’t just a cleaner space.
It’s a space that finally works.

They didn’t need more storage.
They needed a smarter layout.

This basement wasn’t overflowing — but it was underperforming. Everything was technically “put away,” but nothing was easy to access. Shelving hugged the walls, categories were blurred, and the room felt tighter than it actually was.

We used an epoxy floor upgrade as a reset point. Emptied it completely. Categorized with intention. Then rebuilt the space with an L-shaped shelving layout, uniform bins, and clear labels — leaving room to grow without returning to chaos.

The square footage didn’t change.
The system did.

If you’ve been blaming your space, this might be your sign to rethink the layout.
