Susan Stevenson for Mayor of London is making a whole lot of sense! 👏👏 Getting people into recovery, tackling open drug use, and helping people get their lives back instead of enabling the cycle of addiction. THIS is the kind of leadership other cities across Ontario need to start paying attention to! We need solutions that actually help people recover, restore public safety, and bring our communities back. More cities need to be having this conversation!

Kudos to the people who aren’t afraid to question the status quo! 👏 Honestly, I’m surprised we haven’t been asking these questions sooner.

Maybe we’re finally waking up because we’re seeing more and more nonprofits popping up asking for public money, and charities that once operated on volunteers increasingly becoming government-funded organizations.

And here’s another question we need to be asking: What role are our politicians playing in keeping this funding pipeline going? Who’s approving the funding, who’s advocating for these organizations, and who’s making sure the money is actually accomplishing what it’s supposed to?

Millions in public money should come with public accountability. PERIOD.

You can care about helping people and still question the system. You can want solutions to homelessness and still demand proof that the money is working.

Taxpayers aren’t an endless ATM, and vulnerable people deserve better than a system where budgets keep growing but the problems remain.

FOLLOW THE MONEY. SHOW US THE RESULTS. HOLD EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE !!! INCLUDING THE POLITICIANS SIGNING OFF ON THE FUNDING.

LIVE TONIGHT - Join the conversation!

Landlords, you know the cycle: find a tenant, chase the rent, file the N4, wait on the Landlord and Tenant Board, turn the unit over, and start all over again.

But what if there were another way?

Tonight, I'm joined by Rachel Oliver, the Cashflow Queen, a Rent-to-Own pioneer who has helped nearly 1,000 families work toward homeownership. Rachel is co-author of the Amazon best-seller Rent-to-Own Essential Guide for Homebuyers and co-founder of the Ownable Home Program.

We'll discuss how Rent-to-Own works, how families can pursue homeownership, and how investors can explore alternative approaches to rental housing and cash flow.

PLUS, TONIGHT'S LANDLORD HEADLINES:

Hamilton's Maximum Heat Bylaw: A new pilot will require landlords in Ward 2 to maintain a maximum indoor temperature of 26°C during the summer cooling season. What will compliance cost, and what could this mean for rental housing affordability?

Landlord and Tenant Board Changes: Shorter N4 notice periods, persistent late-payment rules and new hearing requirements. Will these changes make a meaningful difference for housing providers?

- Rent Reporting & Credit Building: How can rental payment history help responsible tenants build credit while giving landlords another tool for documenting payment history and debts?

-The Rising Cost of Rental Housing: Mortgage costs, property taxes, insurance, maintenance and government regulations. Are we doing enough to keep rental housing sustainable and affordable?

- AND WITH MUNICIPAL ELECTION DAY APPROACHING… LET'S TALK ACCOUNTABILITY!

Municipal decisions affect our property taxes, housing supply, rental regulations, development charges and the future of our communities.

As voters prepare to head to the polls, we need to be asking important questions: What are our municipal leaders proposing? What will their policies cost taxpayers? And are their decisions helping create more housing, or adding more barriers and costs?

These issues affect landlords, tenants, homeowners, businesses and taxpayers alike. It's time to look beyond the promises and have honest conversations about policies, spending and results.

JOIN THE DISCUSSION!

Are new rental regulations improving housing conditions, or are we overlooking the cost of providing rental housing?

Could Rent-to-Own offer another pathway to homeownership?

And what should voters be asking municipal candidates about property taxes, housing affordability and accountability before casting their ballots?

Drop your thoughts and questions in the comments. We want to hear from landlords, tenants, property managers, homeowners and taxpayers.

Because this isn't about landlords versus tenants. It's about good landlords, good tenants, responsible government and housing solutions that work.

CAMBRIDGE - PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!

I keep saying this because it matters:

Don’t just listen to the speeches. Look at the record. Look at the motions. Look at the votes. Look at the policies.

Some of the issues facing Cambridge are WAY too important to ignore.

Take tent encampments.

Councillor Scott Hamilton brought forward a motion asking City staff to look at preventing forced removals of people living in encampments.

That tells voters something about his approach to encampments.

Then there’s CTS- supervised consumption.

Scott has publicly supported a supervised consumption site in Cambridge.

⚠️And here’s something Cambridge voters should know: Health Canada currently lists an application for The Corner, 58 Queen Street South in Kitchener, received June 4, 2026, as under review.

It has NOT been approved but the application is real.

So ask the questions:

Is this the direction we want Cambridge going?

What is the long-term plan for encampments?
How much are taxpayers spending?
Are people actually getting into permanent housing?
What are the measurable results?
What happens to neighbourhoods, businesses and public spaces?
And are we getting people into treatment and recovery, or simply managing addiction on our streets?

These aren’t questions about whether we care. Of course we care.

They’re questions about what actually works.

Scott’s political history matters too. He was the NDP candidate for Cambridge in the 2019 federal election, so voters can look at the policies and values he campaigned on and compare them with his positions today.

Ryan Bolender is putting a different set of priorities forward: responsible spending, property tax increases at or below inflation, better core services, public safety and accountability for taxpayer dollars.

That’s why I keep saying:

DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Don’t vote based on who gives the best speech.

Look at the record.

Look at the policies.

Look at the direction.

Because electing a mayor isn’t just about the person standing at a podium.

It’s about the direction Cambridge takes for the next four years.

City of Cambridge

City of Cambridge

This year please vote for prospective mayors and councillors who have fresh ideas and the wherewithal, and the desire, to tackle Ontario's above-inflation property taxation problem. Year-after-year property tax increases that exceed the growth in the incomes of those paying the taxes is simply not sustainable. We all know it. Its basic math. So why haven't incumbent mayors and councillors done anything about it over the last 4 years? Good question! Voting for the same candidates year after year and expecting a different outcome is a sign of insanity. Property tax arrears are on the rise across Ontario. Cambridge tax arrears have risen 30% in just 4-5 years. Cambridge has increased its property taxes on average at almost twice the inflation rate each year since 2013. Is your income rising at twice the inflation rate? I didn't think so. What's astounding is that Deloitte (the accounting firm) conducted a statistically significant independent study of what Cambridge residents wanted done with property taxes. The study was accurate to within +/- 5%. A whopping 73% said they wanted property tax increases at or below inflation, even if it meant cutting services. Do you think the mayor and council members are listening to their constituencies? Of course not. They're following their own agendas. No wonder only ~25% of eligible voters actually do vote. They've given up. What the majority wants is not what's guiding the decision making at City Hall. Waterloo Region is even worse. And some Ontario Regional governments are even worse than Waterloo. Cambridge now has $38 million in unpaid property taxes. Guess who will need to make this shortfall up through even higher property taxes in the future? Homelessness is rising in lock step with decades of property tax increases that have exceeded the growth in renter incomes (Landlords simply pass their property tax increases on to their renters). Eventually they can't afford to pay rent and also put food on the table. They end up out on the street. We need "big new ideas" to get property tax increases back down to sustainable levels. We need to see a plan from those we elect designed to achieve this objective. Gone are the days of "nice to haves" and "spending on programs demanded by the 1% special interest groups". This election year please vote for those who are committing to tackling the property tax affordability problem. Remember to take a hard look at the 4-year voting records of your current mayors and councillors. Many are now talking up a storm about affordability, due to the elections, but have spent your hard-earned property tax dollars like drunken sailors over the last 4 years. Don't you believe them. We need big change if we want to address the property tax affordability problem, not just empty promises. Get out and vote this year. Its time we made our voices heard. Its time for mayors and councillors to start listening to and acting upon what the majority wants, and stop pandering to small special interest groups.

Last night was a FULL special episode of Cambridge Politics Unfiltered and I have to say, we raised some BIG questions.

At what point do we start asking our elected officials: WHERE THE HELL IS THE MONEY GOING?

The province and municipalities have thrown millions of dollars at homelessness, encampments and related programs, yet the problem continues to grow.

So what exactly are we accomplishing?

And with the municipal election coming up, please be very careful about who you choose to represent you as your next councillor or mayor.

We have candidates in Cambridge who have talked about protecting people living in encampments and not removing them.

I have to ask: is that actually helping people, or are we enabling the situation to continue?

Because handing someone a sandwich and walking away isn’t a long-term solution.

People need real help, real supports, treatment when needed, housing, accountability and a path forward.

And taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going and what we’re actually getting for it.

These are uncomfortable questions, but I think they’re questions we NEED to be asking.

What do YOU think?

10/02/2026

This is NOT your typical election town hall.

I’ve been watching the debates, town halls and conversations happening around Cambridge, and I have A LOT of questions.

One of the biggest:

Are Cambridge residents actually getting a fair opportunity to ask the questions THEY want answered?

We’ve seen "highly structured" town halls, including one where mayoral candidates had just ONE MINUTE to answer.

We’ve also heard incumbent candidates call tough questions “mudslinging” or say they’re being “picked on” when their past votes on council motions, decisions, statements and ideas are brought back into the conversation.

But isn’t that part of an election?

If you want people’s votes, shouldn’t voters be able to question your record, your votes, your ideas and your vision?

That’s what we’re doing tomorrow.

I’m joined by members of the public: Pam, a Cambridge business owner, Patricia, a Cambridge community advocate, and John, who heads up the Property Taxpayers Alliance.

We’ll be playing news clips and videos, looking at the facts, sharing information, and I’ll be giving my personal take and asking some uncomfortable questions.

WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT:

- Taxes, affordability and the $38 million in property tax arrears
- Cambridge Elects town halls and non-profit influence
- Housing, homelessness & encampments
- Municipal spending, accountability & disclosure
- CTS & public safety
- Cambridge stormwater fees
- ION/LRT & the billion-dollar question

We’re looking at what candidates have said, what councillors have voted on, what taxpayers are being asked to pay for and whether proposed solutions actually address the problems.

Because taxpayers shouldn’t simply be told: “Trust us.”

Look at the numbers.
Look at the votes.
Look at the record.
Look at the proposed solutions.

Then decide for yourself.

This isn’t about telling you who to vote for.

It’s about giving Cambridge residents a place to ask questions and have the conversation.
