Practical Guide for Leaders to Thrive

1. Start with Self-Reflection
Ask yourself:
Am I valuing people or just expecting results?

Daily reflection:
2 minutes to honestly assess how your actions affect your team.

Tip:
Keep a simple journal of wins and failures in valuing your people.

Most investors look at numbers.
I look at culture.

Culture decides if money grows… or fails.

It drives ex*****on, innovation, engagement, and retention.
A strong culture multiplies results.
A weak culture slowly erodes them.

Numbers don’t lie—but culture tells the real story.

What’s your organization doing to make culture your growth engine?

The ability to see value in people—and the willingness to change—can make or break your leadership.

I’ve seen brilliant strategies fail because the leader couldn't recognize the potential in their team.

And I’ve seen small teams do extraordinary things because someone believed in them before they believed in themselves.

Here’s the truth:
- If you can't see the value in people, you'll never build a team worth following.
- If you’re not willing to change, your team won’t grow—and neither will you.

The greatest leaders I’ve worked with had the humility to adapt and the wisdom to invest in their people.
They didn’t just manage performance. They developed people.
They didn’t just demand results. They modeled growth.

If you want to grow your company, your culture, or your team—start here:
👉 Look for value in others, value them, and add value to them.
👉 Be willing to evolve yourself.

That’s the kind of leadership that builds something that lasts.

What do you think is harder—seeing value in others or being willing to change?

A full-circle moment I’ll Never Forget!

Last year, I officially became a Certified Maxwell Leadership Team Member—as a leadership trainer, speaker, and coach.

But what made it truly special was something that happened six years earlier.

Back then, I had a phone conversation with TRACI MORROW and John C. Maxwell. Yes—that John C. Maxwell. I still remember where I was standing during that call. They invited me to join the Maxwell Leadership Team, and honestly, I was both honored and a little surprised.

I said yes. Something in me just knew—it was the right step.

Fast forward to the Certification event in Orlando, I met Traci Morrow and John Maxwell in person. I walked up to Traci and said, “Traci, you might not remember, but we spoke on the phone six years ago—you and John invited me to this journey.”

Her eyes lit up, and we both smiled. We were really glad to see each other. That small moment meant a lot.

Then I asked her if she’d do something personal for me:
“Would you write my name on my certificate—the one signed by John C. Maxwell and Mark Cole?”

And she did.

That moment—her handwriting, that signature—it brought everything full circle.
It reminded me how one conversation… one invitation… can change the direction of your life.

If you’re wondering whether your yes matters—it does.
It did for me.

Whether we like it or not, our strong corporate culture starts and ends in the boardroom.

It's not the posters on the walls.
It's not the mission statement on the website.
It's the everyday decisions, conversations, and priorities set at the top.

Culture is not a side project.
Culture is leadership in action.
If the boardroom leads with clarity, consistency, and courage, the organization will reflect it.

If the boardroom tolerates confusion, politics, or silence, the organization will magnify it.

Culture is built — or broken — at the leadership table.
Every meeting.
Every decision.
Every example you set.

The question is:
What culture are you building today?

Look at this shade of effectiveness, and you will understand that you can multiply it by growing your leaders.

Process optimization determines your level of productivity, but your leadership ability determines your level of effectiveness.

We need to recognize that managing processes alone has its limitations. I explain this point repeatedly to leaders across various industries and sectors.

If, on a scale of 1 to 10, your success is driven by a score of 6 in managing processes but only 1 in leadership ability, your shade of effectiveness will remain severely limited.

You can push your people as much as you want, but if your leadership level is only 1, your company, organization, or department will never grow beyond your ability to lead people.

However, when you improve your leadership ability, your level of effectiveness will multiply.

This is the Law of Multiplication that John Maxwell described it very well.

Everyone wants to grow. But not everyone is willing to grow.
That’s something I’ve learned the hard way—and seen play out in teams over and over again.

If you want to lead well and build something that lasts, growth has to start with you.

Here are 3 things I believe make all the difference:

1. Willingness to grow.

It’s not about how talented you are or your desire. I’ve worked with brilliant people who never moved forward, because they wanted to grow but weren’t willing to grow.
Willingness means being open to change, to be ready to step into discomfort, and being open to feedback daily. That’s where the real growth happens.

2. Seeing value in others.

Leadership isn’t about fixing people, it’s about seeing them.
Their strengths, their potential, their giftedness, and talent. What matters to them.
If you can’t lead based on what they value, they won’t feel valued at all.

3. Daily discipline to build culture.

Culture doesn’t get built in a day, but it does get built every day.
You either build it by design or by default.
And every choice you make is shaping it.

I’ll say it again:
Everyone wants to grow. But not everyone is willing.

Which one are you?

Want to elevate your leadership through communication?

In a recent talk with HR veteran, Maxwell Leadership team member, and my friend Daniel Dalton, we unpacked some game-changing insights for anyone serious about building stronger relationships at work and driving cultural transformation within organizations.

Here is what we covered:
Self-awareness is the gateway to effective leadership. Know yourself to lead others better.

The difference between an expert and a professional? Professionals keep growing—every day.

Tools like DISC, Enneagram, and Insights Discovery aren’t just buzzwords—they’re practical frameworks to improve team communication.

Culture doesn’t just happen. It must be designed, defined, and reinforced top-down.

Leadership is influence, and that begins by valuing others before trying to add value.

One line that stuck with me: “People don’t buy into the vision until they buy into the leader.”

Let that sink in.
Whether you're in HR, management, or simply leading a team of any size, these insights are worth your time.

Have you used any of these tools in your team or organization?
What’s been your biggest communication challenge lately?

👇 Let’s talk about it in the comments.

Regardless of the industry or sector, all executives, business owners, and entrepreneurs need to understand one simple truth:

If you were able to create a business and run it successfully, but now find yourself stagnating on a plateau—there’s one core reason.

You stopped putting time into your people.

The moment you take your eyes off your team—their gifts, their perspectives, their potential—that’s the moment the decline starts.
You don’t see it right away, but the culture begins to shift.
Innovation slows.
Energy fades.
People go quiet.

And here’s the truth:
Every single person on your team has a bright idea that could move your business forward.
But you're not asking.
Or they don’t feel safe to speak.
Or… no one cares anymore.

My mentor once told me:
A good move is great. A bad move can be corrected. But no move destroys you.

That hit me hard.

So if progress has stalled—it’s time to make a move.
Start with a conversation.
Listen with curiosity.
Show them you still care.

It’s not too late to fix what you haven’t done before.
It’s time to talk to your people—and save your business.

I’m here not to impress you. I’m here to lead.
I don’t care if you like my style or not. I’m not trying to win a popularity contest.

I care about one thing: my mission.
And my mission is simple — to help leaders become better.
Because leadership shapes everything. Your team, your corporate culture, your company future.

But here’s the truth:
You have to choose that for yourself.

If you don’t like my flash, that’s okay.
If you don’t agree with me, that’s okay too.

But just know this —
Where you are today is a result of the leadership decisions you’ve made.

And where you go next? That’s up to you.

So if someone says, “I don’t agree with that,” let’s leave those where they are today.

The rest of us, Let’s walk the talk.

Another great leader and veteran I was honored to meet—again.

It was a privilege to connect for the second time and now in Las Vegas with Jason Redman, Navy SEAL Veteran, speaker, and author—whose courage, resilience, and leadership continue to inspire thousands.

From battlefield leadership to empowering others through his story, Jason is a true example of what it means to lead with purpose and strength—no matter the challenges.

Grateful for another powerful conversation and the opportunity to stand alongside a fellow warrior who's changing lives beyond the uniform.
