Happy Thursday! The weeks have been flying by through February and March and we apologize for our lack of “Week In Review Posts” from Lands & Forests Consulting. In the midst of a week filled with tree marking and preparations for the upcoming seasons of prescribed burning and tree planting we wanted to share a few more pictures with you from our continued work for the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in the Rice Lake Area. Our team has continued with a pre-commercial thinning of several burn blocks at the Hazelbird Nature Reserve for NCC. This work is helping to restore oak savanna, oak woodland and tall grass prairie ecosystems in conjunction with prescribed fire. The cutting is focused on mostly white pine, poplar, and red maple. By removing the majority of the white pine and all of the poplar and red maple the canopy is opened up allowing more light to reach the forest floor.

Lands & Forests Consulting: Our Week In Review - Saturday, February 6, 2021
Another great week has finished up for our team at Lands & Forests Consulting. Over the last few days we have been tree marking for and Grey County. We also conducted a few woodlot assessments and MFTIP visits in Bruce County and got to look at some giant mature trees along Arran Lake. We were able to undertake some wildlife habitat work, releasing wild apple trees from ash regeneration. Our week also included cedar thinning in a small cedar plantation for Bruce County (material will be used for fencing on Bruce County Properties). Lands & Forests Consulting: Our Week In Review - Friday, January 15, 2021
Happy New Year!
This week our Lands & Forests team was ready and eager to welcome 2021 by tackling a variety of jobs and projects. Over the last couple of days our crew has been completing tree marking for Simcoe County, private cedar marking near Wiarton, and private hardwood marking in Wellington County. We visited a pine plantation thinning in a Bruce County forest that we marked in 2019 (check out the growth rings on the European Larch in our photos here). Also this week we completed 2 MFTIP site visits and continued to progress with a trail project. Lastly, we scouted out a meadow restoration job in the Collingwood area.

Lands & Forests Consulting: Our Week In Review - December 24, 2020
Throughout the week our Lands & Forests team has been tree marking - a selective cedar harvest (releasing scattered hardwoods), marking for Simcoe County doing a 2nd thinning of a Red pine plantation, and our crew undertook a forest clean up and the creation of a bedding habitat for whitetail deer in the Owen Sound area. As our week draws to a close and we prepare for the holidays we wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas from all of us at Lands & Forests Consulting.

Lands & Forests Consulting: Our Week In Review - December 19, 2020
Another week has come and gone! Here are a few pictures from over the last few days and the work that the Lands & Forests Consulting team has been doing. This week our crew spent 3 days marking pine plantations for Simcoe County (2nd and 3rd thinning’s). We also completed woodlot assessments in the Listowel area, as well as hardwood marking in Keppel township (focusing on reducing proportion of ash in the stand ahead of Emerald Ash Borer. We also finished up a large job in the Goderich area where we were doing pine plantation and cedar marking and MFTIP.

Happy Friday everyone!
This week has been a full week for the crew at Lands & Forests Consulting. Over the last few days our team was busy tree marking for an improvement harvest in Keppel Township and tree marking for a first thinning of a white and red pine stand near Markdale. Our crew also was up on the Bruce Peninsula tree marking as part of a large selective cedar harvest for Bruce County. Another area our crew was working at this week was progressing with a Forest Improvement project for one of our clients over near Halliburton. Check out a few pics from our adventures this week:
