When it comes to our immune systems, it was always thought our body will react the same way when a bacteria or virus infects us. No matter the time of day, it was thought our immune system would take charge.
Research now suggests otherwise, stating that our bodies' immune systems actually react differently based on the time of day due to our body clock.
"Broadly speaking, our immune cells migrate into tissues during the day and then circulate around the body at night. This circadian rhythm of immune cells may have evolved so that immune cells are directly located in tissues at a time when we are more likely to be infected, primed for attack."
Body clock has evolved over millions of years to help us survive When microorganisms – such as bacteria or viruses – infect us, our immune system jumps into action. It is highly trained to sense and eliminate infections and clear up any damage caused by them.
