Life has a way of throwing you into the unknown. And when that happens, you’ve got two choices—sink or swim. I chose to dive in, headfirst. Because let’s be real—no one’s coming to save you except YOU.
Back in 2008, I was stuck. I had skills, I had drive, but the jobs available weren’t paying what I was worth. So I turned to Google, just searching for answers—something in the hospitality industry, something that made sense. And that’s when I stumbled upon Airbnb.
I got excited. I followed the steps, listed my first apartment, and waited. And waited. And waited. A whole year passed with zero bookings. That’s when I realized—Airbnb was still new, and my location at the time wasn’t a tourist or business hub.
But life kept moving, and so did I. I went back to managing a nightclub (which, trust me, had its own wild stories 😂). Then, when I moved to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, I gave Airbnb another shot.
💥 BOOM! My first guest. From Texas. And that was just the beginning.
Since then, I’ve experienced the highs, the lows, the surprises, and the wins of hosting. The independence, the financial freedom, the lessons—it’s been worth every single challenge.
