Narcissists love to control the conversation. And if you are determined to get a word in edgewise, you can try...don't be surprised if they turn their head away and look elsewhere as if they are not interested...that's because THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED. Don't bother. You're preaching to an empty church.
Been there, done that. Now recovered. Life is good.

RELIVE vs. RELIEVE. If you look at these 2 words, the only difference is the letter “e”. But what a difference it makes.

Think of something negative from your past. What happened? What did you see and hear? How did you feel? How did it affect your energy & ability to make effective decisions?

How many times have you been haunted by it, & you feel as miserable as you did then or worse? 5 times? 10? 20 or more?

Do you want to stay there & RELIVE the past over & over, or would you like to RELIEVE yourself from the past & gift yourself some FREEDOM?

Let the letter “e” represent emotions, change RELIVE to RELIEVE, & use emotions to help solve the problem. How much better would you feel if you could switch out the negative emotions related to a past event, & switch in new, positive ones? All it takes is a little strategic visualization to change things. You have the power to be a happier, more confident person,& you will see, hear, and feel a difference. Hypnotherapy helps you with that.

How can resisting change make me sick?
Physical symptoms are not just isolated health issues. They are interconnected with emotional resistance to change and deeply intertwined with emotional and psychological states.

Hypnotherapy helps, not only immediately, but also for long term healthy results.
Here are 3 categories of symptoms, based on their physical and emotional characteristics:

1. VISUAL- Issues like nearsightedness or farsightedness aren't just about how we see the world around us. They may signify deeper, subconscious fears - ie nearsightedness relates to fear of the future (not wanting to see what’s coming), whereas farsightedness relates to fear of the present (not wanting to see what’s happening now).

2. CARDIOVASCULAR - Issues such as low blood pressure could be more than a simple health anomaly; they can reflect an overarching sense of defeatism, inflexibility or anxiety about life's demands.

3. ENDOCRINE & METABOLIC - Understanding these connections helps address the root causes of resistance - ie someone experiencing motion sickness may be feeling a lack of being in control. Stomach problems like ulcers or nausea are reactions to a fear of the “new”, rejecting new ideas or experiences, or possibly struggling to assimilate the new.

By linking these physical symptoms to emotional resistance, we provide a more holistic understanding of health and pave the way for more effective coping strategies. This holistic view is crucial for fostering long-term change and promoting overall well-being.

BROADER IMPACT - The effects of resistance to change extend beyond physical health and can significantly impact other areas of life, including relationships and work performance - ie taking the eyesight example we used above, someone who experiences symptoms like astigmatism or nearsightedness might struggle with interpersonal relationships due to their fear of facing reality or anxiety about the future. This avoidance can lead to misunderstandings, reduced emotional intimacy, and even conflict, as they may withdraw or react defensively in social situations.

In the workplace, resistance to change manifests as decreased productivity, reluctance to take on new projects, lack of engagement and increased absenteeism. Physical symptoms like low blood pressure, which correlates with feelings of defeatism and anxiety, diminishes one’s ability to focus and perform effectively. These also affect the profitability of your organization.

KEY TAKEAWAY
Understanding these broader implications highlights the importance of addressing both the emotional and physical dimensions of resistance to change. By doing so, individuals can enhance their overall quality of life, improve their relationships, and achieve greater success in their professional endeavors.

In the last of our 3-part series, we look at the toll stress and anxiety take on our emotions.
Once you notice HOW you do stress and anxiety, you can take steps to take back control. Stress and anxiety behaviours aren’t something that happen TO you. They are habits you have formed over time.
Don’t let these things run your life.

Low Self-Esteem Chronic stress and anxiety erodes your self-esteem, making you doubt your abilities and worth. Other symptoms are things like imposter syndrome and second-guessing yourself. Recognizing this can be the first step towards rebuilding a stronger, more confident you.

Overwhelm Feeling overwhelmed? When stress and anxiety creep in, they make every task feel insurmountable. Remember, it’s okay to take a break, breathe, and tackle one thing at a time. You’re stronger than you think!

Irritability Find yourself snapping easily? Stress shortens our fuses, leaving us feeling irritable and out of character. Let's explore ways to channel that frustration into something positive, turning irritability into creativity and calm.

Mood Swings Find your mood flipping without much reason? Anxiety leads to sudden and intense mood swings, affecting your emotional stability. Recognizing the influence of anxiety is the first step in gaining control over these swings.

Eating Habits Stress eating or skipping meals? Anxiety disrupts our eating habits, affecting our health and mood. It's important to listen to our bodies and find balance in our diet. Let's talk about restoring harmony to your meals and your mind.

Nervousness Feeling jittery or nervous, especially in social settings or before major events, is a common manifestation of anxiety. Techniques in hypnotherapy help soothe the nervous system and promote a calm, confident demeanor.

Panic Attacks One of the most intense effects of anxiety is the panic attack, characterized by sudden overwhelming anxiety, physical symptoms like heart palpitations, and a feeling of losing control. Understanding and managing triggers can greatly reduce their frequency and intensity.

Relationship Strain Anxiety doesn't only affect you—it strains your relationships too. Stress can make us less empathetic, more defensive, or overly needy. Building awareness and communication skills can help maintain strong, supportive relationships.

Social Awkwardness or Withdrawal Feeling like avoiding social interactions? Anxiety leads us to pull back from friends and activities we love. Reconnecting can be the first step back to feeling like yourself again.

Discover how your body reacts to stress and apply one of a number of tools to reduce or even eliminate the problems, so you can live a healthier life.

In the second of my 3-part series on stress and anxiety, this edition deals with the toll stress takes on you mentally. Maybe you're dealing with some of these:
procrastination, high alert, indecision, loss of focus, memory loss, obsessive thoughts, pessimism and insomnia.

Procrastination / Avoidance Behaviour
Do you find yourself putting off tasks or avoiding situations that make you anxious? While this may seem like a relief, as you feel better being “off the hook”, procrastination is only a temporary fix.

The reality is that it adds to your stress and anxiety. You KNOW you are obliged to complete the task. Delaying it only adds what feels like more work (even though it isn’t) … and that leads to more stress.

If this sounds like you, let's explore strategies that address anxiety head-on, empowering you to face challenges with courage and confidence.

High Alert / Hyper vigilance
Feeling constantly “on edge” can be exhausting. Anxiety can lead to hyper vigilance, where you're perpetually on alert for danger. Your body is poised for action, your brain is not in thinking mode – you are in 100% reaction mode.

When you are on alert, whether the threat is real or perceived, the brain fires off chemicals into the brain and body, preparing for fast action (the fight or flight response). This is vital for your survival, however, if you are not truly under constant threat, being in a hyper vigilant state is like driving your car at high speeds continuously for hours without a break or maintenance. Eventually the car will break down and possibly become a write off. Don’t be like that car.

Learning to relax and assure the mind that it’s safe is key to reclaiming peace.

Indecision
Anxiety can make every choice seem daunting, making it hard to decide even on small things. You have brain fog, or you may feel confused. Maybe you’re experiencing the fear of making a mistake (fear of failure).

When you reduce your stress, you become more calm and able to think better. Free yourself from these fears with tools that boost confidence and clarity.

Loss of Concentration/Focus
Stress can scatter your thoughts, making concentration difficult. (You are probably now seeing a link between this and indecision, procrastination and hyper vigilance.)

Loss of Focus can become a vicious cycle accumulating into even greater stress and anxiety.

“What you focus on, grows. What you concentrate on is what you see more of in life.” – Robin Sharma.

If you’re losing focus, whether at work or at home, I can help you realign your thoughts and sharpen your mind.

Memory Problems
Have you ever finally returned to your desk, then forgot where you left off? Memory issues are not just for seniors. Stress and anxiety can affect your short-term memory, making it tough to keep track of details. Especially in today’s world, where you are bombarded constantly with messages and information to process.

A calm mind has amazing recall capabilities because memories are stored in the unconscious. It’s like your personal bottomless pit of storage.

Obsessive Thoughts
Can't stop the endless loop of 'what-ifs' and worst-case scenarios? Anxiety often traps you in a cycle of obsessive thoughts. The ‘what-ifs’ relate to future events that haven’t even happened yet.
You may also fall back on the ‘would-a’, ‘should-a’, ‘could-a’s too. These relate to past events you feel remorseful about, possibly adding guilt or shame to what you’re already feeling.
No wonder moving forward is so challenging.

Hypnotherapy can help break these cycles, allowing for a clearer, more peaceful state of mind. It also helps relieve hyper vigilance.

Pessimism
Caught in a cycle of negativity? Also referred to as a negative mindset, anxiety often paints your future with doubt. Imagine being able to ‘white-out’ negative thoughts and memories that led to negative thinking.
Everything that happens in your life, even negative things, contains a positive message. How good would it feel to bring the positive lessons you learned from the past forward into your future, leaving the negative feelings behind?

Hypnotherapy can help shift your perspective, opening the door to a more optimistic outlook and a brighter tomorrow.

Sleeplessness/Insomnia
Struggling to sleep? Anxiety often keeps you up at night, pondering the 'what ifs’ and ‘would-a’, ‘should-a’, ‘could-a’s. Even the physical exhaustion of stress makes it tough to sleep.

Hypnotherapy can guide you toward peacefulness at bedtime. You gently drift off to sleep as you let go of the day’s worries and embrace a night of restful sleep. You’ll wake up refreshed and energized the next day.

And if you would like to discover how to take control back, and experience better results and more freedom in your life, message me and let's talk.

Stress and anxiety takes a toll on you physically, emotionally and mentally. Over the next few weeks I’ll share some information and offer some beneficial actions you can take. Let’s begin with the physical effects of stress and anxiety.

Fatigue - constant anxiety can be exhausting, not just emotionally but physically too. If you're feeling perpetually tired, it might be time to look deeper into what's draining your energy.

Decreased Immunity - under constant stress, your body's ability to fight off illness can weaken, making you more susceptible to infections. Managing stress is crucial for maintaining not just mental health but physical health too.

Physical Manifestations - headaches, muscle tension, and stomach issues and more serious conditions such as IBS, cancer and more are a few ways our bodies respond. It’s not all in your head – your body speaks for your mental health.
