In 2017, we went to Kenya with colleagues in support of Free the Children. Our volunteer work lead to meeting many new friends and learning to perceive the world from their perspective. It helped us change our approach to faculty and business leader development.
In 2018, we went to travel extensively through China. We learned that you need to perceive others' situation through the history and eyes of the people and not rely on an increasingly biased news reporting media.
In 2020, we bought a sail boat named Cadence that was moored in the British Virgin Islands We went there to isolate in the BVIs meeting many people who live and work here. It is a diverse population with a great amount of Caribbean Pride. Again, after 5 months of observing and reflecting we are changing our practice to take advantage of our learnings. I continue to be impressed with the patience, work life resourcefulness displayed by BV Islander people in order to get through this pandemic. Something that we could use more of in Canada.
