There’s a concept I’ve been playing with lately and it’s the idea of living each day from a place of Becoming. (credit to Michelle Obama who introduced me to this in her first book)
Not being.
Not arriving.
Just… Becoming.
A more intentional, active way of showing up in your own life.
I’ve noticed how, throughout my day, every choice I make, from the tiny to the significant, is shaping who I am Becoming. And if I’m honest, some moments feel aligned…and some absolutely do not.
Here’s a few moments from my morning. Can you guess which were in service of who I want to become and which ones aren’t?:
• woke up early to do my book study
• doom-scrolled and erased the head start
• honoured my workout
• had a ginger snap for breakfast
Becoming isn’t a straight line.
There’s no punishment when you “veer off.”
No rigid rules.
The edges soften when you come from awareness and curiosity.
You become kinder to yourself. And isn’t that what most of us need?
So here’s a practice to try:
Choose one typical day and take note of everything you remember doing, thinking, or feeling. All of it.
Then, at the end of the day, write out this list. And before you move onto the next step...take three slow breaths, soften your mind, invite your intuition in, and look at your list.
For each item, ask:
“Was this in service of who I want to Become?”
Write YES or NO. Quickly, intuitively.
When you’re done, look at the page.
Not to judge it — but to see clearly.
Because you can’t shift a pattern you’re not aware of.
And once you’ve done this once, you don’t need to write it down every day.
The question becomes your guide.
When you’re scrolling…
When you’re irritated…
When you’re stuck trying to make a decision…
When you feel off…
Ask yourself:
“Is this in service of who I want to Become?”
This is how patterns begin to break — gently, honestly, one moment at a time.
Save this if you want to try it tonight.
