How do you know what's really affecting your team's wellbeing at work?

Through our collaboration with Miller Pearson Consulting, we help organizations find out. A tailored staff survey shows what's happening. Focus group conversations uncover the why. Then we bring it together into practical recommendations that fit your workplace.

Employee health and wellbeing is one of the key lenses in this work, and it's been our focus all month.

As Brad Domaas, Director of Parks at the City of Burnaby, shared: "The engagement survey is now a permanent fixture in our annual work plan." 🌿

More on how the process works coming in November.

Express Entry is changing — effective November 3, 2026.

IRCC has announced changes that will put more emphasis on high-wage occupations and Canadian work experience.

One of the biggest changes: qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations can receive 50, 70 or 100 additional CRS points — without an LMIA.

A few things to know:
🔹 Existing Express Entry profiles will be recalculated under the new system.
🔹 If you have a qualifying job offer, you’ll need to make sure your profile includes the required information before November 3.
🔹 Not every job offer will qualify, and specific requirements still apply.

If you’re currently in the Express Entry pool, have a Canadian job offer, or are considering your pathway to permanent residence, these changes could make a difference to your CRS score and strategy.

We’ll continue to keep you informed as the new rules come into effect.

Have questions about how these changes may affect you? Feel free to contact us.

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day 💛

This year's theme is "Lived experiences heard; real voices, real change."

At work, every choice an employer makes affects how people feel. How we communicate. How roles are designed. How the work is structured.

Real change starts with listening. A quick check-in, a staff survey, or simply a proper conversation can make a big difference.

As we head into the Thanksgiving long weekend, take care of yourselves and check in on the people around you. 🍂

Twelve areas. One HR partner.

I get asked a lot what "HR consulting" actually covers. So I wrote it all down.

From employer coaching and recruitment, to compensation, compliance, workforce planning, and LMIAs, I put together a full breakdown of the HR services I offer Canadian employers, and when each one actually makes sense for your business.

Whether you're just getting a feel for what HR support could look like, or you already know exactly what you need, it's worth a look.

Link to the full breakdown in the comments below. If you've got questions about where your business fits, I'm happy to talk it through.👇🏻

We have some exciting news to share... please join us in welcoming Cheryl Churney to the Evoke HR & Immigration team! 🎉

Cheryl brings more than 25 years of senior HR leadership to the table, with experience across the public sector, private sector, and Indigenous governance organizations, and a strategic eye for organizational design and workforce planning. She has spent her career building workplaces that are more inclusive, modernizing policies that actually make sense, and helping people navigate even the toughest employee relations situations with care.

One thing we love most about Cheryl is her genuine commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation. She doesn't just talk about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, she works to bring them into everyday practice. That kind of dedication is special, and we're so glad to have her on our team.

Cheryl will be working alongside businesses and organizations who truly care about their people, helping them build the kind of HR function their team deserves.

If you know a business that could use some seasoned, thoughtful HR guidance, Cheryl is exactly the kind of person you want in your corner.

Welcome aboard, Cheryl! We're thrilled you're here. 😊

Planning to hire through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program? There's an update worth knowing about.

ESDC has revised the hourly wage thresholds that determine whether an LMIA falls under the high-wage or low-wage stream. The new thresholds apply to applications received as of July 17, 2026 — in BC, the threshold moves from $36.60 to $38.40 per hour.

This threshold decides which stream and which program requirements apply to your application, so a position that sat comfortably in one stream may now land in the other.

A quick reminder: paying above the threshold alone doesn't qualify a role for the high-wage stream. The offered wage still has to line up with what Canadians and permanent residents earn for the same job, location, and experience.

And to other RCICs who may have missed it in a busy week — this one's worth a second look before your next filing.

The impact of immigration changes rarely arrives all at once.
More often, it appears gradually.

Permits expire. Eligibility shifts. Retention challenges emerge. Recruitment becomes more difficult.

Many employers across BC are already feeling that pressure.

The organizations best positioned to navigate it will not be the ones waiting for policy changes.

They will be the ones taking stock of their workforce now, understanding where risks exist, and planning before those risks become disruptions.

Workforce stability starts with visibility and preparation.

Read our latest blog to understand what these changes could mean for your workforce and the practical steps you can take now.

For years, international students played an important role in supporting local labour markets.

Many employers hired students part time, transitioned them into full-time roles, and viewed that pathway as part of their future workforce planning.

That pathway is becoming less predictable.

Employers are increasingly finding that strong student workers are unable to remain long term, not because of performance or fit, but because eligibility requirements have changed.

For organizations that have relied on this talent pipeline, this is a good time to revisit workforce assumptions and future hiring plans.

Full breakdown in our latest blog.
