✨ Meet Aleata Vanstone ✨

We are excited to welcome Aleata to Joyce Leppington Consulting as a Youth Consultant.

Born and raised on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Aleata brings a strong passion for community connection, storytelling, youth empowerment, and relational learning. With over 10 years of experience across the tourism and hospitality sectors, alongside an educational background in Business Development, she has developed a deep appreciation for supporting people, understanding diverse perspectives, and creating meaningful connections through shared experiences.

Aleata’s passion for teaching, learning, and uplifting others has naturally guided her toward this work. Her care for community, culture, and the wellbeing of future generations aligns deeply with the values we hold at JLC.

We are grateful to welcome Aleata into this next chapter and look forward to the knowledge and energy she will bring as she continues growing in facilitation, public speaking, and community-based work alongside the team. 🤍

Today, on National Red Dress Day, we honour and remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

Every red dress represents someone deeply loved. A daughter. A mother. A sister. A friend. A community member whose absence continues to be felt.

MMIWG2S+ is not only a historical issue. This is ongoing and deeply connected to colonial violence, systemic racism, displacement, and the continued dehumanization of Indigenous peoples across these territories.

Awareness must move beyond symbolism. It must become accountability, action, and a commitment to creating safety within our communities, workplaces, systems, and relationships.

Today we remember those who should still be here. We honour the families and communities carrying grief and advocacy.

And we continue to call for justice, protection, truth, and systemic change.

No More Stolen Sisters. ❤️

A special day spent with TransLink 🤲🏼🧡

This year, Len had the honour of speaking at the Voices and Vision: leading change in social services gathering in Victoria. Delivered in partnership between The Federation of Community Social Services of BC, The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, The BC Association for Child Development and Intervention, and The Board Voice Society of BC, Voices and Vision brought together hundreds of leaders, advocates, researchers and front-line workers from across BC to share ideas, strengthen connections and lead change in community social services.

Len’s session explored decolonizing leadership through the lens of Elder Dr. Albert Marshall’s teachings on Two Eyed-Seeing.

“Two-Eyed Seeing refers to learning to see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous ways of knowing and from the other eye with the strengths of Western ways of knowing and to using both of these eyes together” - Elder Dr. Albert Marshall

Always amplifying others. Thank you LPC ✨️ 🧡

A new episode of Nut'semot is out now! We hope you’ll settle in and join us.

In this episode, we sit down with Joyce Lepington, associate consultant and founder of Joyce Lepington Consulting, for a deeply meaningful conversation on decolonization, authenticity, and what it truly means to lead in a good way.

Joyce shares her journey from growing up in the foster care system to becoming a powerful voice in Indigenous education, facilitation, and leadership. Together, we explore the realities of holding space for difficult conversations, the importance of connection before intention, and how lived experience shapes the way we show up in this work.

This episode is a reminder that decolonization is not just something we talk about, it is something we live, feel, and practice every day.

✨ Meet Simone Williams-Horne (Simone Diamond) ✨

At Joyce Leppington Consulting, we’re honoured to work alongside artists and knowledge-carriers whose gifts bring depth, culture, and meaning into our shared work.

Simone Williams-Horne (Coast Salish), professionally known as Simone Diamond, is an artist from Cowichan and Tsawout, carrying the cultural name Ti Ti Ta Maat. Born in Duncan, B.C. and now living on Stó:lō territory, Simone has been creating since she was young, shaped by a lineage of Coast Salish artistry through her father Francis Horne Sr. and her brothers Terry Horne and Francis Horne Jr.

Known for her feminine, balanced, and intentional style, Simone works across graphic design, painting, pencil work, and carving. She carved her first mask at 13 and began designing for Native Northwest at 16, with her artwork featured on books, houseware, apparel, and more.

At JLC, Simone offers cultural artwork and visual storytelling that is visually resonant, culturally aligned, and deeply relational. Her contributions help ensure our teachings are shared with integrity and intention.

We’re grateful to walk alongside Simone as part of our growing circle.

At our LPC team gathering in May, Noelle Saemerow led us through an important conversation about rest and sustaining ourselves in challenging work. Noelle is inspired by the work of authors like Tricia Hersey and Cassanadra Johnson who critically integrate the value systems that demand we keep going. For Noelle, rest is what empowers us to do meaningful work and stay rooted in what matters most.

How do you find space to rest in a world that asks us to keep going?
