Business Bank Account vs Second Personal Account… is it necessary?? Let’s discuss.

Sole Proprietors in Canada should be keeping personal and business finances completely separate. I am of the belief that a business account is the way to do that for two main reasons:

1) Most banks in Canada stipulate in their terms and conditions that you cannot use your personal bank account for business related purposes. Check yours to make sure!

2) There are currently a couple free options available on the market, which makes the barrier to entry basically nonexistent. My favourite being EQ Bank but BMO does offer a big bank option if that’s more your jam.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, and of course, if you have questions, you can let me know in the comments

START THE CAR ‼️🚨

The BEST small business bank account (for sole proprietors) in Canada is available to all businesses with either a registered business name OR who can provide proof that they are registered to collect sales tax.

I finally got my approval last week and I am OBSESSED!!

lets you set up 10 sub accounts so you can set aside money for taxes, expenses, or savings goals… AND you can earn interest on all of it!!

Absolutely not sponsored, but too good not to share.

The best part??? $0 in monthly fees!!!

Bye bye to the big banks, I’m closing my account as we speak 😂

LMK what questions you have

04/26/2026

In Canada, individuals who are self employed (and their spouses) have until June 15th to file their taxes.

HOWEVER any balance owed starts accruing interest effective May 1.

This means that if you wait until June to file and have a balance owing, the CRA will retroactively add interest to that balance from the period of May 1 to the day that you arrange payment.

This is why you will personally never find me filing my taxes past April 30 🙅‍♀️

My question is… why even give us the extra time? This feels like a scam and I simply do not understand.

Anyone have thoughts???
