β’ On May 4, 2026, IRCC announced progress on fast-tracking permanent residence for 33,000 workers already in Canada.
β’ This one-time initiative focuses on smaller communities and rural areas facing labor shortages.
β’ The goal is to transition temporary work permit holders who have established roots into permanent residents.

β’ Total Target: 33,000 workers by 2027.
β’ 2026 Goal: At least 20,000 transitions.
β’ Current Progress: 3,600 workers granted PR between Jan 1 and Feb 28, 2026.
β’ Geographic Focus: Rural, remote, and smaller communities.

Eligibility Criteria
β’ Current Status: Existing work permit holders who have already applied for PR.
β’ Residency: Must have lived in a smaller community for 2 years or more.
β’ Pathways: Applied through PNP, AIP, Rural/Northern Pilot, Caregiver Pilots, or Agri-Food Pilot.
β’ Action Required: NoneβIRCC is identifying candidates from existing inventories.
