On October 18 and November 1, Red Chris will celebrate Tahltan Day, honouring the history, culture, traditions, language, people, sovereignty and connection to the land of the Tahltan Nation.

This celebration is also an opportunity to listen, learn, and build stronger relationships. By creating space to share stories, art, sample traditional foods and knowledge, we can deepen our understanding and appreciation of Tahltan culture and the communities that surround Red Chris.

We’re excited to welcome our talented artists and activity leaders to Red Chris and look forward to learning from their knowledge, creativity and cultural teachings, while sharing food and celebrating Tahltan culture and community together.

🍽️ A Special Thank You to ESS! – Thank you to our ESS team for preparing special dinners and providing the artist door prizes that help make these celebrations memorable.

Thank you to everyone helping make these celebrations meaningful. 💙

💻 🔐 Helping local community Elders stay safe online

Brucejack's Social Performance Team, together with Brucejack Site Digital and Newmont Digital North America, recently hosted Cyber Safety Training sessions for Elders in participating Nisga'a and Hazelton communities.

The initiative was developed in response to feedback and interest expressed by community members within our local Indigenous communities, who identified a desire to learn more about online safety, fraud prevention, and protecting personal information in an increasingly digital world.

The workshops provided practical guidance on recognizing scams, avoiding fraud and phishing attempts, protecting personal information, and staying safe while using online banking, email, and social media.

Participants shared valuable experiences and left with increased confidence in identifying cyber risks and helping others stay safe online. Interest in future sessions was strong, with topics such as AI-enabled scams and smartphone security identified as priorities.

Thank you to the Elders, community partners, and Newmont team members whose participation and support made these sessions possible. We look forward to continuing this important work!

🧡 On September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We honour the children who never returned home, residential school survivors, and the families and communities affected by the legacy of residential schools in Canada.

This day reminds us of the importance of learning from our shared history, listening to Indigenous voices, and advancing reconciliation through understanding, respect, and meaningful action.

Employees at our Brucejack and Red Chris operations will be participating in activities that encourage reflection, learning, and dialogue.

By continuing to learn, we each play a part in supporting reconciliation on this day and every day.

Driving past Red Chris? Take a moment to see the new mine entrance sign, showcasing specially commissioned artwork by renowned Tahltan artist Huey Carlick and his son, Chaz Carlick.

The sign was officially unveiled by Tahltan Central Government President Kerry Carlick, Tahltan Band Chief Rocky Jackson, Iskut Band Chief Marie Quock, Newmont CEO Natascha Viljoen, and other Tahltan and Newmont leaders.

At the heart of the design are the two primary Tahltan clans, the Crow (Tsesk’iya) and the Wolf (Ch’ioyone), depicted within and supporting the mountain on which the Red Chris Mine is situated and where the Red Chris Block Cave project is envisioned. Together, these elements reflect the values of partnership, community, respect, and care for one another.

🎉 Congratulations to Gitanyow on the grand opening of the Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs Office and the Sindihl House of Learning! Newmont was pleased to support this great outcome with a $1M contribution.

This inspiring new space honours the legacy of Sindihl (Robert W. Good) and reflects generations of leadership, cultural strength, and community vision. The House of Learning will create new opportunities for youth, adults, and Elders to learn, grow, and stay connected to Gitanyow identity and traditions in the heart of the territory.

At the grand opening on July 15, 2026, leaders and employees from Newmont's Brucejack Mine and Vancouver office joined Gitanyow in celebrating this important milestone. Newmont is grateful to have shared in the celebration and proud to support this community-led project.

Thank you to the Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs, Huwilp, Elders, knowledge holders, and community members whose vision, leadership, and dedication made this achievement possible.
