We are excited to welcome to the DTES Hastings Crossing BIA area of town the latest new restaurant and cafe. Saan Saan located at 227 Main, right across from the Provincial Court House, near Cordova St. They serve up delicious, nostalgic, gluten free, HK style cafe comfort food and right now are having a soft opening from Friday to Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm or until they run out of their delicious goodies. They will be expanding their menu in the Fall so there are lots of reasons to keep going back and back for great food, great service, and great drinks.

We welcome another new business to the DTES. Locanda dell'Orso is a new authentic Italian, family-style restaurant at 350 W Pender St. Open Tue to Sat from 5 pm to 10 pm.

Locanda dell’Orso is inspired by the old legend of the Innkeeper and the Bear. Here you’ll find the ambiance of a warm, welcoming Italian home, built on the promise of a welcoming and indulgent culinary experience throughout. We are so happy to report that HAVE Culinary Training Society, an HxBIA neighbour has reopened their cafe. They are a registered charity and nonprofit culinary training school that opened in 2007. HAVE a culinary training program for people that face barriers to employment, particularly residents of the DTES and Strathcona area, called Trained for Success. HAVE also operates two social enterprises that gives students on-the-job training and helps directly fund their training programs.
