New Solar Compass Tracks at TRU

SET is pleased to report that our updated Solar Compass installation received positive reviews for its anti-skid surface performance in recent ice and snow conditions Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, BC. During an informal poll of students conducted during the recent snowfall, it was revealed that the new panels provided superior traction to that of the surrounding concrete. The upgraded modules, installed on campus in late August, were manufactured with a newly developed traction surface to improve surface safety.

SET Presents at International Smart Roads Forum in Beijing

The Beijing University of Technology recently held its international smart roads forum – “Linking Belt and Road, Bonding Tech and Heart”, where members of our Solar Earth Technologies team were on hand to exchange information and meet with other leaders and experts within the industry. SET Managing Director Brian Johnson was in attendance to deliver his presentation “Technology Innovation for Smart Solar Roads”, which outlined the multidisciplinary challenge of this emerging technology as well as the evolving business models required to ensure solar roads are a profitable and sustainable infrastructure investment.
The event was jointly organized by Beijing University of Technology and Vrije University Amsterdam with the intention to foster cooperation and information exchange within the larger international Intelligent Connected Roads and Smart Cities research and development communities.

Solar Earth China Upgrades Daxing Green Village Installation With The Latest Smart Road Technologies

Our SET China team was once again busy installing our latest smart road technologies at the Daxing Green Village trial site first launched last summer 2018. Additions to the installation include a new road paving section using updated versions of the modules first deployed last year, as well as a variety of our new road-display prototypes. The display modules provide various smart road indicators – including lane line markings, directional arrows, and pedestrian crosswalks. These road-display technologies will play a prominent role in the Daxing Phase 2 project which will focus on Smart Roads. Information and communication systems built into the solution will deliver real time traffic and positional data to autonomous vehicle control systems. “Thank you to the Beijing Science and Technology Commission for their continued support in the development of these world leading technologies” ~ Yong Chai, CEO SET China

Research Partner at SFU Receives Government Funding For Clean Tech Projects

The Government of Canada recently announced that Simon Fraser University will receive over $500,000 in funding from Western Economic Diversification Canada in support of clean technology projects. This funding will see two major pieces of equipment added to the SFU Engineering Science lab where Solar Earth’s scientists perform much of their collaborative research with the SFU team. The solar cell development project that SET is spearheading with SFU is not just another technological advancement, but a game-changing solution in the emerging solar roads industry.
