The Israeli military has unleashed an army of robots in Gaza in a scale never seen in any previous war.
They are used to hunt down terrorists in their tunnels without endangering military personnel and dogs.

Have you experienced human dislike of machines?
In my local supermarket, there is a 6-ft-tall robot named Marty that whisks around the store.

He's mainly found in the fruit and vegetable section.

At first, I had no idea what it was for, I assumed I could ask it the location of a product and he'd tell me.

Nope.

He or it, would just stop and not move or speak.

So I asked a staff member.

'He's a pain, that's what he is'

I then noticed a staff member giving Marty a kick on her way past.

What could it be that this robot does that people hate?

Turns out Marty just scoots around looking for potential hazards.

I was in the store a few weeks later and Marty pulled up alongside me. Suddenly his green light went orange and he, in a rather feminine voice, started barking commands about a hazard that needed to be addressed. It also came over the store sound system

The hazard?

A small herb leaf no more than 1/4 inch across that was stuck to the floor tile.

Even an ant wouldn't have tripped on it.

A worker came over, picked up the leaf and grumbled.

I heard at least another five hazard calls while I was in the check out queue for no longer than two minutes

I think I understand the frustration . . .

Amazon is launching drone delivery…finally. Nine years after Jeff Bezos first floated the concept on 60 Minutes, Amazon announced that its first drone delivery service would go live in the town of Lockeford, CA, later this year. The company’s once-hyped drone program has been agonizingly slow to lift off, beset by safety concerns, technical snags, and high employee turnover within the unit. And it’s not a done deal yet—the FAA still has to approve the service before the flying robots start dropping off packages in backyards.

“The question of whether machines can think is about as relevant as the question of whether submarines can swim”. This quote by computer scientist and visionary Edsger Dijkstra is still as relevant today as it was in 1984 when it was written. Computers do not think, they calculate and process information. This may result in outputs that look like the outcome of a thought process, but that is a mere coincidence. What does that mean for a language-oriented field like law? And how do robots then extract information from language?

"Canada is at a very special place right now," he said. "There are very large implications of this situation and it is certainly one factor explaining the current labour shortages that Canada is experiencing."

The Canadian population now has a larger share of people aged 55 to 64 than it does of those aged 15 to 24, the age at which people enter the workforce.

In 1966, there were 200 people aged 15 to 24 for every 100 Canadians aged 55 to 64, but that has now been flipped on its head. In 2021, there were only 81 people aged 15 to 24 for every 100 Canadians in the 55 to 64 age group.

Making Room Service Profitable Again

One repurposed kitchen can serve several nearby hotels and provide guests with a dining experience that’s more personalized and professional than ordering a nearby meal through any other third-party provider.

Thanks to signage and branding on in-room phones, door hangers and menus, customers might not even realize their snacks and meals could be sourced from a kitchen outside of their hotel property. Even as third-party delivery grabs an increasing share of hotel dining

Hotels typically lose money keeping a full kitchen and wait staff on standby. That’s the key reason hospitality watchers believe hotels are killing room service. In many cases, that means job cuts for hotel workers,

More to the point, higher-end hotels that cater to business travelers regard room service not as a burdensome drain on revenue, but as a crucial amenity, even if it doesn’t directly generate a profit. From their point of view, room service is not about to be replaced with a tattered takeout menu on the bureau or an online screen promising speedy delivery.
