Happy Labour (and Labrador!) Day weekend! 🐾

Here's to rest, recognition, and a long weekend well earned.

Fun fact: Labour Day traces back to March 25, 1872, when Toronto printers walked off the job demanding a nine hour workday.

The strike drew 10,000 supporters to a rally at Queen's Park weeks later, and although it didn't win right away, it pushed Canada to legalize unions that same year. It took until 1894 before Labour Day became a holiday.

Nearly everything we now think of as a normal workweek started with people who fought for it.

However you're spending the weekend, enjoy the extra time with the two and/or four-legged loved ones who make it worth it.

We've all heard it: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

It gets tossed around like a warning label: don't be the person who gets burned the same way twice.

In coaching work, I've come to see it differently. It's not really about blame. It's about information.

When someone lets us down the first time, that's data. It might be a one-off, a bad day, a genuine misstep from someone who's otherwise reliable. We don't know yet. So we watch.

The second time it happens, we know something we didn't before: this is a pattern, not an accident. The misstep isn't in trusting someone again. It's in ignoring evidence we already have.

This shows up constantly in career and leadership work.

The colleague who keeps missing deadlines and blaming circumstances. The business partner who keeps "forgetting" agreements or boundaries. Friends or family not honouring our boundaries. The organization that promises change after change and delivers the same old processes or culture.

Giving someone a second chance isn't naive. Calling it faith when it's really something else is what gets us in trouble. Fear of conflict. Hope standing in for evidence. Not wanting to admit the first read was right.

The real skill isn't refusing to trust again. It's knowing the difference between a mistake and a pattern, and being honest with ourselves about which one we're looking at.

That takes self-trust as much as seeing others for who they've told us they are.

It means trusting our own observations, even when we'd rather not believe them.

Next time you're deciding whether to extend trust again, ask yourself one question: am I responding to who this person is, or to whom I hoped they'd be?

What's your experience with giving second chances? Earned, or not?

If you want kind and generous things said about you after you're gone, live the life you want to be remembered for now.

Legacy isn't written at the end. It's built daily.

In how you treat people.

How you show up personally and professionally.

What you leave behind when no one's watching. And, more so, when they are.

The world lost a good one today.

RIP, Sam Neill. You lived a life worthy of praise and celebration.

What a week.

Connecting with BC Fire and vendor friends is always a good mix of work and play, and this one delivered on both fronts.

The play side? Pretty spectacular. My friend, Laura, introduced me to her friend, Allison, who I'm now claiming as my own, and the three of us hit the road, top down, on a gloriously sunny day. The final destination was dinner in Port Renfrew. On the way, we hit brunch at Sooke Harbour House, a stop at Shirley Delicious, and every beach between Sooke and Renfrew. We had logged 16,000 steps and I discovered spots I'd never seen despite living on this island for most of my life.

Weather was perfect. Company was even better. 😎

The day before, we did the Off the Eaten Track walking food tour through downtown Victoria. Fabulous food, great stories, and Brenda made it fun. Seriously, if you haven't done this yet, go. Be sure to get Brenda as your guide.

Grateful for the people, the places, and the reminder that the best weeks are the ones where work feels like play and play feels like an adventure.

Hello, kind-hearted friends and community,

I’ve created this GoFundMe for a dear friend and colleague who has spent years doing everything in her power to protect the safety, stability, and well-being of her young children during a deeply painful separation and ongoing court proceedings.

Those who know me know this is not something I do lightly. I have never felt compelled to create a GoFundMe before. For me to do so now speaks to how serious and overwhelming this situation has become.

I have walked alongside my friend through this journey. I have seen the toll it's taken. It's the kind of experience I would not wish on anyone. Many will recognize the terrain - navigating custody disputes, court proceedings, and an adversarial former partner, all while trying to be a steady, loving parent. The emotional weight is immense. The financial burden is crushing.

This fundraiser is a way for us, as a community, to help shoulder a small part of that load. The goal is simple and humane: to allow her to keep advocating for her children without being forced to dismantle her entire life to do so.

If you have ever known what it means to fight for your family, or watched someone you love do the same, you understand why this matters.

Check out the link below. Thanks in advance if you want to help spread the word. Sharing is caring.

It’s been a year.

There were losses that landed hard. RIP Ken, Cindy, and others who are deeply missed. There were also world events and decisions that were heartbreaking, flabbergasting, and, at times, horrifying. The list there feels longer than it should. 😔

Still, what stays with me most and fills my heart are the gifts.

Deep gratitude for new life. Welcome, beautiful little Lily! For time spent with longtime friends, the joy of meeting new ones, and foe the sense of things flowing and aligning in ways I don't recall experiencing quite like this before. ❤️🙏

If you are heading into the new year with a desire for greater self awareness, I invite you to explore a free core values assessment I often share.

Understanding our values helps clarify our why. They sit at the heart of who we are, the choices we make, and how we show up in the world.

As we welcome 2026, we wish each of you a New Year’s Eve filled with peace and contentment, spent doing whatever truly fills your cup.

May the year ahead bring love, health, abundance, and many moments of genuine joy for you and those you care about.

Cheers, salut, salud to a bright, hopeful, and beautiful 2026. 🫶🍾🥂🤗

Today we honour Indigenous Veterans who, like so many others, selflessly served Canada and the world throughout history.

They stood for freedom while their own rights were denied, and came home to a country that too often forgot their names.

May we remember their courage, acknowledge the injustice, and award the respect they earned in full.
