Something I've noticed after years of working with senior leaders:

Most can describe their symptoms with remarkable precision.
The team isn't performing. The pressure isn't easing. The decisions feel harder than they should. The results aren't moving the way they want them to.

But when I ask what's actually driving it — what's underneath all of that — the conversation gets quiet.

Not because they don't care. Not because they lack self-awareness.

I recognize it because I've been there too. Naming the real source of friction in your own leadership requires a kind of honesty that most of us don't often get the space — or the safety — to practice.

We're good at diagnosing what's happening around us.
We're less practiced at looking at what's happening within us.

I've been thinking a lot lately about what changes when leaders create that space for themselves. What shifts when you stop managing around the friction and start naming it.

The results, in my experience, are significant.

Not because the challenges disappear. But because clarity — real clarity about what's actually going on — changes how you show up and lead.
