Intuitive - readily learned or understood, based on feelings rather than proof.

I came into the business world like a new born baby, I had no knowledge of how to operate a business, connect to others, or become successful.

My success is based largely on knowing ahead of time it would be hard work.
I am also very intuitive.
I love to learn about different aspects of business.

I became a business owner following many health/personal challenges. I never let those challenges hold me back.

I fell into becoming a motivational speaker, over the years I have become a global keynote speaker.

The personal and business consulting came about a few years later when my clients, or members of audiences globally asked me if I would work with them.

I look for opportunities.
I know that when one door closes another one opens.

I am resilient, determined, and I never give up.

A little bit about me to introduce myself to those people who have yet to knwol me properly.

All of the above means that my clients work with me because I have not been trained as a "one size fits all". I work with companies, groups, individuals who understand that the strategies I offer can be used time and time again.

Business growth is like an evergreen plant, without nurturing it, setting a goal to look to see how it's going on a regular basis, the plant will wither away. It's a constant roller coaster of ups and downs.

I help my clients navigate the ups and downs, the growth, and every aspect of personal or business development.

It's that time of year, the celebrations for the Christmas holiday are coming to an end. Spending time with family and friends was lovely but you are now planning on the New Year and your goals for returning to work.

Some people experience the winter blues at this time of year. The days are shorter, the weather can be cold, wet, or even snowy. Knowing when your feelings are more than just feeling down is not always obvious. Here are some examples when it would be a good idea to consult a health professional.

Symptoms of SAD could be, but not limited to...

Inability to focus
Excessive tiredness
Feeling sad, depressed, tearful
No interest in enjoying regular hobbies
Overeating pastries, chocolate, drinking too much coffee, etc

If you feel that your sad feelings are not interfering with you enjoying life and you are eating a healthy diet and enjoying a good nights sleep you might need to get outside a bit more to enjoy what sunlight there is.

Also try to spend more time with family and friends. Sharing how you feel often helps you feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

I always suggest to my clients that goal setting is a wonderful way to look forward to the New Year and all it brings.

Personal and work goals are equally important. Whether you are setting a goal to enjoy a holiday or gain new clients, it can be an exciting time and open your thoughts to all the possibilities that can happen in the brand new year.

In particular if you are a sole proprietor and work most of the time in your home office you might feel less than excited to be returning to your work schedule. If this is the case check out some virtual and in person networking events that will offer you company of like minded professionals. You will not feel so isolated and at the same time gain some insights into new business trends, as well as making new trusted relationships.

I like to travel in the winter, and when possible. spend time outdoors enjoying the scenery, or indoors at markets or exhibitions. Here is an example of me enjoying a Christmas holiday in the UK a few years ago.

Growth is important, but the one thing I have never done is sat around in the same place, waiting to see my business grow.

If you have an office obviously decide which day you want to tackle those emails, phone calls, work on ideas, lots of tasks. Plant yourself in your office that day.

Mark your calendar so that you have the time to attend networking events that would offer you benefits. Some of those benefits would be education, connections, and with consistency referrals.

Meet your clients, or the people who might become a client in the future.

Obviously you can enjoy virtual networking, and the phone is one way to stay in contact with your clients or possible clients. But never leaving your office and hoping your growth will happen, is a big mistake.

Growth needs to be nurtured. Nurture your loyal clients, they will reward you with referrals.
Grow your brand, be seen to be seen, networking events, meetings with future clients. Become memorable.

Do not plant yourself in your office hoping people will come to you, plant yourself at your clients location with a thank you gift, or in a coffee shop talking to a future client.

Your success can be grown, but not if you sit still and wait for it to happen!

Are you thinking about changing direction but fear is holding you back?

I was a stay at home mom to four children, it was a full time job, my youngest a new born and my eldest 8 years old.

Once my youngest child was attending primary school in England, at 4 years old I applied for a job at British Telecom, and I was accepted for the position. Before I became a mother I worked as a secretary at an Insurance Brokers in Birmingham, UK.

Unfortunately I could not accept the new job I was offered due to an accident, and I was unable to move forward with that opportunity.

A year later I emigrated with my family to Ontario, Canada and challenges overtook my life once again. Breast cancer the first time, divorce and financial challenges, whilst I was juggling three low paid jobs.

A new relationship, and a second breast cancer diagnosis prompted me to go back to school; which I did not enjoy fully, but I made the most of it.

An opportunity came along purely because I had an idea and whilst still finishing a years course I decided to start my own business as a motivational speaker. Here I am almost 25 years later with two businesses, one of which I am co-founder the other one I am the President.

I shut fear out, I refused to listen to the voices telling me I could not do it. I persevered, I was resilient, and I still am, and I am always open to new opportunities.

If we think we can't do something, at least give it a try, you just never know where that will take you.

I am useless at playing pool but in the photo I am sharing today I find it fun to try; my husband Dave Ockwell-Jenner is excellent at the game. The least I get out of it is a fun time with my amazing soul-mate. I don't mind if I can't win the game, but at least I am practising and get better bit by bit.

Transfer that to anything you want to do in life and shut out the doubts and the fear. I know you can do it!

My daughter Melissa Day is living with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. There is no cure.

Her story can be found via my podcast My daughter Melissa Day is living with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. There is no cure.

Her story can be found via my podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/episode-177-interview-with-dr-lacey-pitre/id77545516?i=1000670471266

To help raise awareness and for people to understand what Stage 4 breast cancer, from the primary breast cancer, is and some facts not myths, I was honoured to be able to interview a wonderful oncologist for my Conversations Video Series. The audio can also be found on my Motivational Moments Podcast.

Medical Oncologist, Dr. Lacey Pitre, FRCP(C) from hashtag , was kind enough to chat with me about the topic of Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) also known as Secondary Breast Cancer, or Stage 4 Breast Cancer.

Never, ever, give up.

"One of the central themes of the Rocky series is the undying spirit of resilience and perseverance. From the very beginning, we see Rocky Balboa as a down-on-his-luck, small-time boxer, struggling to make ends meet. Despite the odds stacked against him, he never gives up"

Yes I have been watching the Rocky movies with Dave again..but I find a lot of my inspiration from others.

If you need help ask for it.
Believe in yourself.

If you give up you will look back years later and think to yourself "What if". Life is too short to have regrets.

Are you wondering why no one notices your posts on social media?

The first thing to think about is what is your brand saying about you? Most people think their brand speaks volumes but what are others understanding about your brand?

The second thing is to think of yourself as if you were a possible client Look at your content as a would be client might. Why would busy connections here on LinkedIn be interested in your content?

When I work with my clients one of the most asked questions is "why are my posts not attracting any impressions, likes, or comments".

I know the answer and that is why my clients work with me.

If you have any questions on this topic please feel free to ask them here or contact me, both options work for me:

Building a brand should not be confusing. Think of the task as you would when you decide to purchase a laptop, a car, a phone or clothes to wear. What fits your personality, your business type and of course your budget.

Some questions to ask yourself first and foremost are:

Do I have the budget to pay someone to do this work?

Do I have a time frame?

Can I do this work myself?

Once you have clarified what works for you the next step is the planning stages.

Do you want to start with

Your personal brand.
Your brand presence.
Brand Identity.
Branding in general.

My Brand

I built my brand slowly, with caution, and listened to the people who knew me, such as my audience when I was the keynote speaker, my business consulting clients, connections, and asked the advice of other business owners who had the expertise I lacked in this area.
The time was right for me to start working on my brand when I started to get paid for my speaking engagements, which was about eighteen months after I became the President of Motivational Steps. Before that I had dabbled with the clothes I wore, and decided Pink was the colour for me due to most of my presentations at that time being health and wellness related. But to be clear, the colour I wear is a small part of my now recognized brand.

Brands Stand Out

Having a brand that is memorable and recognized means your target market can find you easily. Your connections see you as credible.

I would love to work with you as your personal/business consultant, let's chat and that way we can find out more about each other.

LinkedIn is a valuable resource. Everyone can use the platform as they see fit.

The problems can arise though when we connect to everyone who asks, or who we feel we want to connect with. But have no clear reason why we are connecting with everyone or anyone.

If you are racing ahead to gain numbers versus valuable trusted relationships at least know what those numbers do for you, i.e. thousands of connections.

It is impossible to build trusted relationships with everyone, I agree, but at least be organized and know the reason you are connecting with various demographics.

1. Referrals
2. Partnerships
3. Sponsors
4. Mentors
5. Educators

The above is a short list with simple ideas of the different reasons people connect with each other. Not everyone is going to refer you.

Building partnerships is an equally valuable reason to connect with some people.

Sponsors who recognize the benefits of supporting your business due, to a strong brand, one example, is another reason people connect with each other.

Mentors are invaluable. Helping each other by exchanging ideas, tips, strategies is the way to go.

Educators do not have to be in the education field. They post interesting and up to date content that is beneficial to others.

Building strong and trusted relationships with others is the first step to knowing how you can assist each other.

Why do I tag people when they are in photos with me, or when I take photos of them? I like to share the wealth. That simply means when we tag each other we gain more exposure.

I have gained trusted connections and referrals by being tagged in posts. I love to give back as much as possible. It's not rocket science it's simple.

The quote I have shared says it all "Individually we are one drop, but together we are an ocean." — Ryunosuke Satoro.

When we work together we can do so much more and reach so many more people.
