Death Doulas. This is the perfect way to describe what we do.

Understanding what Death Doulas do NOT do is just as important.

Death Doulas do not:

Provide medical care
Replace clinical teams
Direct decisions
Take control
Override autonomy

Instead, they support clarity, emotional steadiness, and dignity — without imposing direction.

This is presence-based care, not authority-based care.

Caregiving is often invisible.

It happens in coordinating appointments.
In protecting loved ones from fear.
In managing information.
In holding everyone else’s emotions.

Sometimes, caregiving also includes caring for yourself while navigating illness.
Advocating for your own needs.
Making decisions that affect the people you love.
Trying to steady others while your own ground feels uncertain.

This month, we are naming the quiet labour that surrounds MAiD.

The emotional weight.
The anticipatory grief.
The invisible planning.
The love underneath it all.

Whether you are caring for someone, or carrying the responsibility of your own journey, this space is for you.

Caring for someone through a life‑limiting diagnosis can change everything — your routines, your energy, your heart. It’s some of the deepest love a person can offer, but it can also feel heavy, lonely, and overwhelming.

This new blog post is for anyone walking that path. It’s a reminder that your care matters, your feelings are valid, and you deserve support just as much as the person you’re caring for. If you need a gentle moment of recognition today, I hope these words meet you where you are.
