Latest IRCC Announcement effective January 21, 2025: Another devastating change that will affect International Students (IS) and Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) specifically those with dependents:
A) Open Work Permit (OWP) will be limited to spouse of TFW, if the principal is employed in TEER 0 or 1 or in a select TEER 2 or 3 occupations, such as in sectors with labour shortages or linked to government priorities. These include occupations in the natural and applied sciences, construction, health care, natural resources, education, sports and military sectors. The full list will be posted in IRCC website on day when the change will take effect.

B) IS spouses' OWP will be limited if IS is enrolled in one of the following programs:
- Master's Programs with duration of 16mos. and longer;
- Doctoral Programs; and,
- Select Professionals and Eligible Programs

Wait there's more, work permit of principal TFW must be valid atleast 16mos. upon application and dependent children is no longer eligible.
