We’re so excited to welcome Joanna to our team!💫

After 28 years working in pharmacy, Joanna brings a wealth of experience, a genuine passion for helping people, and a love of learning to everything she does. At AOco., you’ll find her reviewing clinical content, supporting project development, creating social media content, and developing educational and patient resources.

What Joanna loves most is connecting with people. Whether she’s helping with a health concern, listening to someone who needs to be heard, or simply giving someone the time they need, making people feel seen, heard and cared for is at the heart of what she does. She’s also a Certified Menopause Practitioner, an area that has become a particular passion for her. Her own experience with perimenopause sparked a deeper interest in learning, advocacy and supporting women through this stage of life.

Outside of work, Joanna is a foodie (Indian food is a favourite!), a mom of four, dog mom to Annie, Charlie and Pippy, and someone who loves a lakefront cottage, a beach walk or a Starbucks run with her kids. She’s also an avid reader and once backpacked through Southeast Asia, including a three-week trek along Nepal’s Annapurna Circuit.

We’re so happy to have Joanna on the team and can’t wait for you to get to know her!

Pharmacy has a revenue problem. But could it also have an imagination problem?

The pharmacy landscape has changed dramatically but are we still trying to make an old business model work in a very different environment?

Efficiency matters. But we can’t efficiency our way out of everything.

It may be time to stop asking, “How do we make the pharmacy we have work better?” and start asking, “What could pharmacy look like if we challenged the assumptions behind the model?”

September 30 is a day of reflection, but our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation needs to extend far beyond a single day.

At AOco., we’re putting that commitment into action.

Before the end of 2026, we’re working toward:

🤝 Building an Indigenous-led learning resource library for our team.

📚 Integrating Truth and Reconciliation learning into employee onboarding and workplace materials.

🔥Identifying Indigenous-owned businesses and suppliers to work with and purchase from.

💼 Expanding our recruitment efforts through Indigenous employment organizations, networks and job boards.

🎤 Planning a team learning opportunity with Indigenous speakers, educators or consultants for 2027.

❤️ Identifying an Indigenous-led organization or initiative to financially support in 2027 and building that contribution into our annual budget.

📋 Making Truth and Reconciliation part of our 2027 planning, with clear responsibilities, deadlines and an annual review of our progress.

For us, accountability means being able to look back a year from now and point to what actually changed such as what our team learned, who we worked with, where we invested our resources and how we contributed.

Leadership means taking responsibility, putting resources behind your commitments and following through.

We don’t want this commitment to live in a social media post or disappear after September 30. We want to build meaningful, lasting change within our organization.

So, we’re asking: What are you actually doing?

Meet Kristen Watt, owner of Kristen’s Pharmacy in Southampton, Chair of the Ontario Pharmacists Association Board of Directors, and a dedicated advocate for patient-centred care. As a multi-pharmacy owner, Kristen is passionate about strengthening independent pharmacy while delivering exceptional care to the communities she serves.

Since opening her pharmacy in 2017, Kristen has built a practice that goes far beyond dispensing, offering services like custom compounding, pain management, addiction treatment, and minor ailments care, while fostering meaningful partnerships with local First Nations communities to improve access to healthcare.

Her impact extends well beyond her pharmacy walls. Kristen mentors the next generation of pharmacists as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo and has held leadership roles with PharmaChoice Canada, championing the future of independent pharmacy across the country.

Whether she’s supporting her local community, shaping the profession, or providing care on international medical missions, Kristen leads with expertise, compassion, and a commitment to making healthcare more accessible for everyone.
