Fair Congo Fair Congo is the first and only fair trade, conflict-free and fully OECD compliant supply chain of artisanal gold from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Fair Congo works in collaboration with USAID and is a member of the Responsible Artisanal Gold Forum. The Fair Congo initiatives were launched in 2017 by the Chambers Federation, a US based impact investment firm working in the area of artisanal and small scale mining (ASM) since 2008. The Fair Congo initiative is currently focused on the exportation of conflict-free ASM gold with the greater goal

of creating additional supply chains of natural resource based products from the DRC, including minerals, timber, and agricultural commodities, all produced and exported in a transparent, legal, and sustainable manner while providing a fair-trade value to the communities who produce them. Fair Congo, sarl is a for-profit company registered in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2017, fully licensed as a ‘comptoir’, an artisanal gold export office by the national Ministry of Mines. 99% of shares are owned by US citizens with years of experience as impact investors. This is the first American owned company to granted an export license for ASM gold in the country and the first exporter to conform to the 'OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas'. For more information on our due diligence and traceability standards please visit our website, www.faircongo.org. The Fair Congo Foundation is a non-profit based in the DRC, currently undergoing the final registration process. All advocacy, cultural promotion and the universal trading platform will be developed through this non-profit. Continued funding will be provided by a share of profits derived from Fair Congo, sarl. Expected Outcome
1. Provide community with higher incomes through direct market access
2. Create jobs by expanding quantity and quality of exportable products through market demand
3. Creating an inclusive job market, providing opportunities to disadvantaged groups, primarily women
4. Provide government with unrealized taxes
5. Provide all levels of the supply chain with legal compliance as well as public relations ‘positives’
6. Improve the overall stability of the region’s economy

Female miners usually manage to accumulate capital and invest into other diverse economic activities. For example, one can move from panning gold to buying ore to renting out tools, eventually becoming an owner and shareholder in several shafts.
