greehill The word’s only Smart Tree Inventory — invented by greehill. A living digital twin for health, safety, clearance & climate. Your forest is your future. See it.

greehill pioneered Smart Tree Inventories — the only solution for urban forestry worldwide. We give cities a living digital twin of their urban forest — from the busiest street to the quietest park. Health, safety, clearance, planning, and climate value, all in one view. From San Francisco to Singapore, cities use greehill to prevent risks, plan with certainty, and prove climate progress with hard data. Lead it.

greehill is the headline story in today’s Portfolio.hu.

The feature tells the story of how technology developed in Budapest is now helping cities across five continents better understand, manage and protect their urban trees.

In the interview, greehill founders Gábor Goertz and Gyula Fekete discuss how LiDAR, proprietary AI and repeated measurement can help cities move from outdated, manual tree inventories toward proactive urban forest management.

The message is clear: urban trees are not decoration. They are essential infrastructure that supports safer, healthier and more livable cities.

Thank you to Portfolio.hu and Réka Debreczeni for sharing our story.

More than 1,000 kilometres of roads. One consistent view of the trees that line them.

In the Somme department in France, greehill is scanning roadside trees across a network of more than 1,000 km, providing the digital foundation for how they are managed over time.

It is a project at infrastructure scale: turning a vast roadside tree population into consistent, actionable information for long-term management.

Today, our team joined the Somme department to present the project at a press conference.

Thank you to the Somme department for the trust and partnership.

Urban forestry, across borders. 🌳

From the US to India, conversations at in Detroit are touching on a shared challenge: how to manage large urban tree populations systematically, while keeping the individual tree in view.

Great to connect with partners, practitioners and urban forestry professionals from across the international community.

Our greehill team is in Detroit through tomorrow. At ISA? Let’s connect.

A new role is always about more than a title. It is about the experience someone brings, the questions they ask and the way they work with people.

We are very happy to welcome Nóra Szedmák as our new Head of People & Culture at greehill.
Nóra brings more than ten years of HR experience from international organisations in the FMCG and aviation sectors. She has worked closely with leaders and teams and understands what it takes to support people through growth and change.

She will continue to develop greehill’s people and culture work as our organisation grows internationally and supports cities and partners around the world.

Welcome to greehill, Nóra. It is great to have you with us.

A tree inventory captures an urban forest at one point in time.

But trees do not stand still.

They grow, recover from pruning and respond to drought, construction, storms and increasingly unpredictable weather. Some decline faster than a typical inventory cycle can record.

Keeping that data current often falls to municipal field teams already inspecting high-risk trees, responding to storm damage, managing contractors and carrying out routine maintenance.

In the United States, a nationwide survey found that each full-time municipal urban forestry employee was responsible for an average of 4,821 public trees.

That scale makes one thing clear: cities need current information without adding another layer of documentation for field crews.

For greehill, technology has a practical role. It should help urban forestry teams keep pace with changes in the field, rather than asking them to record every change themselves.

AI-driven tree inventories are still new to much of the urban forestry industry.
But the bigger change is not only how tree data is collected.

It is what cities can now know.

The greehill Metrics Handbook is a clear reference for the tree-level metrics and calculations now available through greehill’s AI-powered Smart Tree Inventory.

For city managers, this means better visibility for budgets, risk, planning, and accountability. For city foresters, it means more precise information to prioritize work, manage change, and act before problems become urgent.

This is not more data for the sake of data.

It is a new layer of decision intelligence for managing urban trees at scale.

Most tree inventories answer one question: what´s there? greehill answers the next one: what does it mean?

In this video, we show how cities turn raw tree data into structured analysis, custom reports, and export-ready PDFs without leaving the platform.

What you'll see:
- Switching between 2D map and satellite view
- Total Height statistics: absolute vs percentage, 4 preset categories or a 10-level breakdown, bar or donut chart
- Map Analytics: every metric selectable in one popup, here we use Economical Value (Koch method), with trees colour-coded across the map instantly
- Selecting all trees from the list and generating a full Inventory Report, every tree, every parameter
- Customising the report layout and exporting as PDF in one click

The data was always in the inventory.
Now it works for the people managing it.

Meet Lilla Ondok.

GIS Analyst. Field scanner. Photographer.

Since joining .tree, Lilla has been working across Europe, scanning trees in public parks and city streets and helping build the urban tree data cities need to manage and protect their canopy.

Her background spans geoinformatics, archaeological fieldwork, water utility GIS, and photography.

What she likes about field scanning?

“You see the city differently. Every street, every park, every tree becomes part of a bigger picture.”

And when Lilla is not mapping urban forests with us, she captures the world through her own lens.

Tens of thousands of trees.
Three Australian states. 🇦🇺

From February to March, greehill completed new urban tree projects across Western Australia, Victoria, and Queensland.

• Perth Metro: 8,000 to 20,000 trees per project, supporting the response to Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer, an invasive beetle affecting urban trees.

• Sanctuary Cove: 5,000 trees captured to provide richer data for ArborSafe, Civica’s tree risk management system.

• Victoria Racing Club: 3,200 trees scanned at Flemington Racecourse to support the long-term care of historic trees.

Different places. Different challenges.

One common direction: better tree data for better decisions.
