LET’S TALK IPO

The German IPO market was weak in 2023 – as in the whole of Europe. However, many companies are on hold and Kirchhoff Consult AG I Team Farner expects around 10 IPOs in the course of 2024.

Only three companies were listed in the German Prime Standard last year, significantly less than the long-term average of seven IPOs since 2010.

This was less due to the performance of the stock market, which was particularly strong in the first half of the year and in November. More important were the high level of political uncertainty, rising interest rates and the weakening overall economy.

“Investors were very cautious. As soon as we see more positive signals again, the IPO market might pick up. Many companies are on hold.“ Jens Hecht, CFA, Managing Partner Consult AG I Team Farner explains. “We expect at least 10 IPOs in 2024 if conditions become more stable.”

Companies in the DACH region are overall not yet making a sufficient contribution to achieving the 1.5°C target!

The total emissions of DAX160, ATX and SMI companies have decreased by only one percent year-on-year in 2021/2022. This is the conclusion of the latest study on sustainability reporting conducted jointly by Kirchhoff Consult AG | Team Farner and BDO Germany.

"Despite the companies' overall small contribution to the 1.5°C target so far, there are signs that they are on the right track overall: In more than three quarters of all sustainability reports examined, a detailed climate balance sheet is published for the year 2022, and around two thirds follow the recommended guidelines of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). This provides greater transparency and forms the basis for successful climate management," comments Dr. Jan-Ole Brandt, Senior Consultant at Kirchhoff.
