EXCELLENCE
EXCELLENCE is the quality of excelling, of being truly the best at something.
Excellence is a quality which surpasses ordinary standards. It is also used as a standard of performance as measured
For example in a test some people can be graded as excellent, others very good and so on.
In a world characterized by so much competition in all spheres of life, excellence is the mark of distinction. It is what gives people the upper hand. You can't afford to be ordinary, average or get things fairly done. You have to be exceptional. If 20 people apply for a job and they have equal qualifications, they'll go for the person with the highest performance. Excellence puts you on the spot light.
Sometimes people regard excellence as a circumstantial phenomenon but in the real sense of it, excellence is a life style. It's not something that you do today and tomorrow you aren't, it's not something that happens out of the blues, you work for it. You do things, putting in your very best in all that you do.
Excellence is not a set level of quality or perfectionism. It’s an ever-changing dynamic in both our personal journey and the collective journey of our teams.
It’s about growth and maturity. Excellence should be a moving target of sorts. The quality of your craft and serving today should not be the same as the quality of your serving yesterday. It should be increasing and moving forward, not stagnating!
To travel the road of excellence, sacrifice is inevitable. When others put in less time, you may have to put in more, when others make excuses, you can't afford to do so.
Excellence is a thing of the mind and spirit. You can't give what you do not have. The HolySpirit is the Spirit of excellence and those who have it manifest excellence. Just like Daniel in
Daniel 6:3
"Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm."
KJV Amplified Bible
Being excellent does not mean you don't encounter difficulties or that you know everything. Being excellent means you can identify your lapses and deal with them adequately.
Many people have grown up with the mentality of "I mustn't be the first, average is good for me, I am an average student, not everyone is made for the top" and so on. And we think acting that way makes us modest or humble. No! It only hinders our growth. Who exactly was meant for the top? Why not you? From our topic : finding yourself we discovered what God says about us. Being average is certainly not part of it. But I remember that we are the head and not the tail.
Excellence speaks loudly. Yes it does. Excellence is attractive and people are always drawn to excellent things. Stop complaining about how much you've done that went unnoticed, unappreciated or not selected. Ask yourself how well you did what you did. What was the quality like? Many of us may cook rice, but the person with the tastiest will get the most attention.
The truth is if you desire average, you'll give in average effort and average results will you get. Those who desire excellence will put in excellence and get excellence in return. You can't plant cocoyam and harvest paw-paw. What you sow is what you reap.
Excellence is contagious, so choose your company wisely. When you are surrounded by people who do things excellently and are excellence-oriented, you can't afford to be careless. Even if you are careless, when around such people you act in accordance. While there are others who are threatened by excellence. These kinds of people will always give you reason to be passive and do things anyhow. Besides they have no standards.
You need to have a Strong Desire for Excellence.
Passion is the first but most important step to reaching excellence. Without passion everything is done with only half heart and it will give you only half results. So unless you have a strong desire to achieve your goal, you will never be able to achieve excellence in it.
Excellence is not about the big performance on stage. It's about every little thing you do. Hope you've heard people say "when A does something, it's always different. She does it well". You want to cook, you do it so orderly and presentable; you want to pick grains, you take you time to pick properly and so on. If you can't demonstrate excellence in little things, there's no guarantee you'd be excellent in the big things.
Again u need to Make Firm Blueprints. That is Every long term goal you make has to be supported by a solid plan. You can’t just make a goal to win a gold medal at the Olympics and then stop. You have to follow through and break that large long term goal into smaller manageable chunks. So an example of that could be to go the gym every single day. And then you break that down to work out for 3 hours. And then break that down even more and so on.
All of this should be a part of your blueprints for excellence.
Refuse to be in the multitude, the masses. Stand out, shine out! There are people doing things you can do better but because you decide to be in the masses and forsake excellence, you lose out. The sacrifice for excellence may seem big but the returns are bigger. It pays to be excellent.
The Keys of Excellence
1. INTEGRITY – Match behavior with values
Demonstrate your positive personal values in all you do and say. Be sincere and real.
Living in integrity means that everything we say and everything we do are true reflections of what we value, what’s important to us. Think about what your behavior says about you. Does it clearly show others what you value
FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS – Learn from mistakes
View failures as feedback that provides you with the information you need to learn, grow, and succeed.
When we live the Key of Failure Leads to Success we see failures as feedback, we learn from them and make the changes needed to be more successful in the future.
To live this Key successfully we may need to change the way we think about failure. Rather than viewing failure in a negative way where we put ourselves down and think WE are a failure, think of failure as a valuable learning experience. When we look at our mistakes with a view to learning from them, rather than sending ourselves negative messages, we are on the path to success.
We may be reluctant to try different things because we’re afraid of failing. Fear of failure does nothing but keep us in our comfort zone where we stick with the familiar, the “safe” choices where we don’t “risk” another failure. When we step out of our comfort zone—when we’re willing to try something new—that is when we take a step toward success.
The only real failure is not learning from our mistakes. The key to success is to look carefully at what went wrong, change what we did the first time, and try again by applying what we learned.
SPEAK WITH GOOD PURPOSE – Speak honestly and kindly
Think before you speak. Make sure your intention is positive and your words are sincere.
Words are powerful! They have the power to uplift and enlighten or put down and depress. A few cutting words spoken in a moment of anger can affect us for a long time, perhaps even a lifetime. On the other hand, a few kind words can make a very positive difference in how we feel about ourselves … sometimes for a lifetime.
What we say to others—and to ourselves—can have a huge impact. Speaking with good purpose is about always considering the intention of our words. It’s about communicating directly, clearly, honestly, and with a positive purpose. The first step is awareness. If we always think before we speak instead of just blurting out whatever comes to mind, we can learn to consider the reason for our words and make sure we are speaking with good purpose … will our words build someone up or put them down? We all sometimes have negative thoughts, but we don’t have to say everything we think.
There will be times when we need to share critical thoughts. At these times, if our purpose and how we phrase our words is considered first, sharing honest and direct feedback can be very positive and powerful, and build trust.
Speaking with good purpose is the cornerstone of healthy relationships. This Key fosters a positive emotional environment where people are happier, more productive, and more likely to succeed.
Again, always learn to Believe in Yourself . Self-confidence is single handedly on of the most important things you can have in your life. If you believe that you can do something, that alone gives enough strength to complete the task.
So if you combine your desire for success with your self-confidence and belief in yourself, you will light such a fire that you will have an unlimited drive, which will greatly help you achieve
Plan your days. – Do you plan your days? Did you wake up today knowing what you are supposed to do today? If not, maybe it’s time you do. Planning doesn’t have to be long and tedious, it can just be a 30 second process. Every night, think about a few small things that you want to accomplish tomorrow and write them down. When you wake up the next morning, review this list before you do anything else.
Another way to achieve excellent u need to Learn from the Best that is having a Role Model(s).
Rather than doing everything on your own. Try to learn from the best of people who have already done everything that you are doing now. These people who have already achieved success have built in themselves all the skills and habits required to be excellent and successful and you can learn a lot from them.
THIS IS IT! – Make the most of every moment
Focus your attention on the present moment. Keep a positive attitude.
This Is It! is about focusing on NOW instead of later, or next week, or next month, or next year, or yesterday, etc., and making the most of it. A positive This Is It! attitude can make everything we do and every day productive, fulfilling, and fun!
Life is full of distractions and opportunities to do something else, something other than what we’re doing now. Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about those other things. Instead of making what we’re doing now “it” our focus is often elsewhere—on things we wanted to do, could have done, should have done, or want to do “sometime.” Whenever our thoughts are occupied with something other than what we’re doing, we miss what’s going on around us in the moment … while we’re waiting for the next moment to arrive the present moment slips away.
When we live in the NOW we have power! With a This Is It! attitude we make the present “it” and find joyful moments that we might otherwise have missed!
Excellence and IQ are mutually exclusive!
IQ is based on some random questions composed by some one.
For example the most successful people in the united state ( millionaires ) are from Russia
3% of Americans are from Asia but they contribute 25% of the total scientific innovation
Averagely the those with highest IQ in the world are Mongolians and they are underdeveloped.
You can be excellent in sport. IQ does not measure that
You can be excellent in singing. IQ does not measure that
You can be excellent in socialization IQ does not measure that
But the Good news is IQ can be improved like your muscles gets stronger with exercise? So does your brain.
No mater your IQ you can be excellent
