"Gunmen Spark Fear: Two killed in Bamenda, Bambui Town closed"

Two unidentified bodies with bullet wounds were found near Street Five in Mulang, Bamenda 2 Subdivision, on March 11, 2026. Residents reported hearing gunshots last night and this morning. The killers and their motives are unknown. This is the second such incident in the area in three days, with two young men found dead earlier. The Anglophone armed conflict, now in its tenth year, has led to thousands of deaths in Cameroon's Northwest and Southwest regions. Yesterday, March 10, 2026, a police officer was killed in Ndop, Ngoketungja Division of the North West Region, under unclear circumstances. Reports indicate that suspected Ambazonia fighters killed the police officer, though no official statement from the security hierarchy has been made. Meanwhile, the town of Bambui, headquarters of Tubah Sub-Division, remains closed, with business premises unable to open their doors after gunmen in the locality issued an order demanding the closure of all shops in the town. According to sources, after the killing of a young quarter head in Bambui days ago, the palace of Bambui is reported to have declared a three-day mourning period in honor of the young teacher and quarter head brutally murdered after his kidnapping. In response to the mourning, armed men are reported to have ordered the closure of all shops in Bambui town until further notice. Shops and markets remained closed on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

A 50-year-old bread seller has been remanded in Bamenda central prison, Cameroon, for allegedly ra**ng a 13-year-old girl in Sisia Quarters, Nkwen Bamenda 3 in the North West Region of Cameroon. Neighbors accused him of giving the teenager sweets before the act, which happened a month ago.

The girl's condition worsened, and she revealed what happened after her mother asked her questions. The man was arrested, charged with ra**ng a minor, and is in Bamenda Central Prison awaiting trial.

R**e of a minor in Cameroon is primarily punished under Section 346 of the Penal Code, which provides elevated penalties for sexual acts against children under 16, typically 15 to 25 years in prison, with potential life imprisonment if specific conditions are met. Two young men, Ndi Facius (19) and Blaise Anye (21), have been remanded at the Bamenda Central Prison after being caught digging a grave in Ntambessi quarter. Residents heard noise at 1am on March 4, 2026, and found them digging with two others who escaped.

The gendarmes were called, and Ndi and Blaise were arrested. After investigations, they were charged with "desecration of graves and corpses" and are waiting trial. The reason for digging the grave isn't clear yet.

In Cameroon, individuals who dig up graves to steal human bones (bone trafficking) are typically charged under the Penal Code for the desecration of graves and corpses.

Priscilla Ninge, a journalist with Foundation Radio in Bamenda, Northwest Region of Cameroon, has passed away after a brief illness. She was known for anchoring the program "Whispers" on Foundation Radio FM 100, Mile Six Mankon.

Ninge, a graduate of Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Buea, had also worked with Catholic Media House, Radio Evangelium, and was a freelance journalist. Her contributions to media in the region will be remembered.

Security Concerns Escalate in Bambili, Tubah Subdivision:

Residents of Bambili, in the Tubah Subdivision of Cameroon's North West Region, are living in fear due to increased shootings, kidnappings, and killings over the past three weeks. The area, particularly the Mile 11 to Mile 10 stretch, has become a hotspot for criminal activity.

In an open letter to North West Region Governor Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, an anonymous youth leader appeals for urgent action to address the security gap. The governor had previously responded to concerns about security challenges in the area, and residents acknowledge efforts by security forces, including Commissioner Egbe Harold's police team.

However, despite some improvements, criminals continue to operate with ease, attacking and kidnapping students and businesspeople, especially at night. A recent incident saw a teacher by name Nchami Calistus who double as a quarter head killed in Mile 10, indicating the gravity of the situation.

Residents urge the governor to establish a strategic security presence in the area to restore safety and confidence. The community hopes for peace and stability under the governor's leadership especially as Tubah Sub Division is considered the educational hub of the North West Region.

BUNS Construction has finished building the main part of the City Chemist Bridge in the town of Bamenda, North West Region.The bridge connects City Chemist, Sonac Street, and Mrs. Geng Junction. Now, they just need to fill the sides with soil to make it stable.

The project was supposed to take 3 months, but they finished the main part in just 1 month! People are happy with how fast it's going. The bridge will make it easier for people to move around the area.
