Gossip Queen
Part 11
Adaure had genuinely changed.

People became slightly more comfortable around her.

Not completely. But enough to start small conversations again.

The trust was returning one step at a time.

Meanwhile, Somina continued living her life.

Although she had moved on from the friendship, the pain of the betrayal never fully disappeared.

Then one day, something unexpected happened.

Somina encountered a personal challenge connected to her upcoming marriage plans.

It was a sensitive issue. Not something she wanted the entire village discussing.

Unfortunately, through a coincidence, Adaure learned about it.

She had not gone searching for information.

She simply overheard part of a conversation while waiting at a luxury fashion store.

The moment she realized what she had heard, she froze.

Months earlier, she would have rushed to tell somebody.
Then somebody else.
Then the entire village.

That was exactly what the old Adaure would have done.

But the old Adaure no longer existed.

She immediately walked away.

She told nobody. Not one person.

Gossip Queen
Part 10

The realization was painful.

But it also became the beginning of change. The next morning, Adaure made a decision.

She was tired of being the Gossip Queen. She wanted something different.

At first, the change was difficult. Old habits do not disappear overnight.

A few days later, a woman stopped her at the market.

"Have you heard what happened between Chief Obinna's son and his wife?"

The old Adaure would have been excited. Instead, she smiled politely.

"No, and I don't need to know." The woman looked surprised.

Then she walked away.

Another day, a trader tried sharing a rumor about a wealthy family.

Adaure simply continued shopping.

"I don't discuss people's private matters anymore."

The trader stared at her in disbelief.

Word spread quickly. People noticed the change. Some believed it. Others did not.

"She is pretending." "Just give her time." "Nobody changes that fast."

The villagers watched her carefully. They expected her to return to her old ways.

But Adaure remained consistent. Weeks became months.

Whenever gossip started, she walked away. Whenever someone tried sharing secrets, she changed the subject.

Whenever people asked questions about others, she refused to answer.

Slowly, the village began noticing something unusual

GOSSIP QUEEN
Part 9

The weeks that followed were some of the hardest weeks of Adaure's life.

For the first time, she truly understood what loneliness felt like.

Nobody visited her. Nobody called her. Nobody invited her to parties, weddings, or evening gatherings.

Whenever she entered a conversation, people became cautious.

Whenever she approached a group, voices became quieter.

The same thing she had complained about before became even worse.

But this time, she understood why. She had earned the reputation herself.

One Saturday afternoon, Adaure sat alone at a café near the village center.

A group of elderly women occupied a nearby table.

They were discussing a businessman from another community who had lost a major contract because people no longer trusted him.

One woman shook her head. "A bad reputation is harder to repair than a broken house."

Another nodded. "Money can return. Trust is different." The women continued talking.

"A person without trust has nothing."

Those words stayed in Adaure's mind long after they left.

That evening, she sat quietly in her room thinking about her life.

For years she had believed gossip was harmless.

She had laughed whenever people complained.

She had treated secrets like entertainment.

Now she finally understood something important.

Gossip did not only hurt the people being discussed.

It also damaged the person spreading it. Little by little, she had destroyed her own reputation.

Nobody had done it to her. She had done it to herself

Gossip Queen
Part 8

The betrayal hurt too deeply.

"I can't do this anymore."

Adaure looked up. "What do you mean?"

"I can't be your friend anymore." The words hit harder than anything she had ever heard.

"Adaure, I love you like a sister." Somina wiped her tears.

"But I can never trust you again." The sentence shattered her.

Somina walked toward the house.

Adaure quickly stood up. "Please." Somina stopped briefly.

Then she continued walking. She never looked back.

That evening, Adaure sat alone in her room.

For the first time, gossip had cost her something precious.

Not attention. Not popularity. Not a small argument. It had cost her her best friend.

The days that followed were even worse.

People who already distrusted her became colder.

Conversations stopped whenever she appeared.

Nobody shared personal matters with her. Nobody asked for her opinion.
Nobody invited her into private discussions.

It was as if she had become invisible.

The loneliness was unbearable.

For years she had laughed at warnings. Now she was finally experiencing the consequences herself.

One evening, she saw Somina across the street.

Her instinct was to wave. But Somina simply turned away and continued walking.

That hurt more than anything else. For the first time in her life, Adaure understood what it felt like to lose someone's trust.

And deep inside, she began wondering whether she had destroyed the most important friendship she would ever have

Gossip Queen
Part 7

When she arrived, Somina was sitting alone on the terrace.

Her eyes were red. It looked like she had been crying.

Adaure sat down carefully. "What happened?" Somina stared at her. For several seconds, she said nothing.

Then she spoke. "Everybody knows." Adaure's heart dropped.

"What?"

"My engagement." Adaure froze.

"The secret I told you." Silence. "My private matter." Adaure looked away. "The whole village is discussing it." Still silence.

"Adaure, did you tell someone?" Immediately, Adaure shook her head. "No."

Somina continued staring at her. "Adaure." "No." "Adaure." "I didn't."

Somina slowly picked up her phone.

She played a voice note. Inside the recording, two women were discussing the exact details Somina had shared. Every detail.

There was no way anyone could know unless the information came from Adaure.

The evidence was impossible to deny. Somina's voice trembled.

"You promised me." Adaure lowered her head. Tears filled her eyes. "I only told one person."

The words slipped out before she could stop them.

The moment they left her mouth, she knew it was over.

Somina stared at her in disbelief. "You told someone?" Adaure nodded weakly. "I thought she would keep it." "You thought?" "I'm sorry." "You thought?" "I'm really sorry."

Somina stood up. Her hands were shaking.

"Do you know how embarrassed I have been?" Adaure remained silent.

"Do you know how many people have been discussing my life?" Tears rolled down Somina's face.

"I trusted you more than anyone." Adaure began crying too. "I didn't mean for this to happen."

"But it happened." "I'm sorry." Somina shook her head.

The apology was too late. For years she had defended Adaure.

For years she had ignored the warnings from others.

Now she finally understood why people did not trust her.

GOSSIP QUEEN
PART 6

One evening, Adaure met her longtime acquaintance, Ifechi, at a luxury café near the village center.

The two women sat together drinking fruit juice.

As they talked, the conversation naturally turned to village matters.

Then Ifechi mentioned Somina. "Adaure, you know something." Adaure laughed nervously.

"No." "You do." "No." "You absolutely do." Adaure tried changing the topic.

But Ifechi kept pushing.

Finally, Adaure leaned forward. "Promise me something." Ifechi's eyes widened. "What?" "You cannot tell anybody." "I promise."

"Nobody." "I said I promise." Adaure hesitated.

Then she made the biggest mistake of her life. She told her. Everything.

The engagement. The personal secret Somina had trusted her with. All of it.

When she finished, she felt relieved. As if a heavy burden had been lifted.

Before leaving, she pointed her finger at Ifechi. "If this gets out, I will know it was you." Ifechi nodded confidently. "It will never leave this table."

Adaure believed her. Unfortunately, Ifechi had the same weakness Adaure had.

The next day, she shared the information with one friend.

That friend shared it with another. Another shared it with someone else.

Within days, the entire village knew. The engagement. The secret. Everything.

The information spread faster than wildfire. People discussed it in shops.

They discussed it in salons.

They discussed it during evening gatherings. Even people from neighboring communities started hearing pieces of the story.

Adaure had no idea what was happening. Then one afternoon, she received a phone call from Somina.

The moment she answered, she knew something was wrong.

Somina's voice sounded cold. "Can you come to my house?"

Adaure swallowed nervously. "Of course." When she arrived,
