Why does the seem to get struck by and remain completely unharmed?

What looks like a lightning strike is actually a normal and highly effective part of the tower's lightning protection system. The tower is designed to actively attract lightning to its tip and safely channel the electrical current deep into the ground.

Rather than being an accident, it is a controlled process that protects the tower itself as well as nearby buildings during thunderstorms.
