The Star System Under Assembly

Unveiled in late 2024, the product underwent technical upgrades in 2025, achieving substantial improvements in quality, precision and output capacity. These advances lay a solid foundation for diversified and expanded assembly combinations. Structurally, the six connecting ends of each individual unit enable versatile three-dimensional assembly at 45-degree and 90-degree angles.

Beneath its minimalist appearance and internal circuit system lies meticulous structural optimization. Connecting joints are streamlined without redundant design elements. Refined materials and electronic components are adopted to minimize potential after-sales troubles.

A wide range of assembled configurations have been developed in the MARIO TSAI workshop, alongside stable mass production. Such progress stems from long-term refinement of the whole system.

Despite continuous improvement in manufacturing capabilities, challenges remain in external supply chain coordination as well as internal product design and production workflows. We welcome ongoing attention and supervision from all parties.

Chopsticks Maker
做筷子

——

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This philosophy of self-reliance and sustainable living, expressed by ancient Chinese through plain everyday insights, constitutes the core origin of Mario Tsai’s design practice. As a creator, he pursues the exploration of an object’s essence and the communication of universal values.”Give a man chopsticks, and you serve a meal; teach a man to make chopsticks, and you grant him self-sufficiency.” To equip people with the awareness and ability to craft chopsticks on their own is a modern interpretation of this traditional philosophy of survival.

By reinterpreting and redesigning the pencil sharpener as a prototype, we have created a miniature portable tool for making chopsticks. Instead of the one-dimensional logic of “providing ready-made utensils”, the tool empowers users to be self-sufficient: in outdoor scenarios, they can source materials locally — selecting safe twigs, thin bamboo or other natural materials — and quickly remove the outer skin and sharp edges to form usable chopsticks. After use, the chopsticks can be cleaned and discarded. As the materials come from nature and return to nature, they create no environmental burden, embodying a minimalist and sustainable lifestyle.

This chopstick-making tool is not a simple replacement for tableware, but a tangible modern carrier of the “teach a man to fish” life philosophy.

CHOPSTICKS 箸(Zhu)

Project Name : Chopsticks Maker_做筷子

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” is the conceptual origin of this work. Reinterpreting a pencil sharpener, the project becomes a portable tool for making chopsticks in outdoor contexts, where users select natural materials and shape them for immediate use. It shifts from providing utensils to enabling self-sufficiency, embodying a contemporary reading of this philosophy.

“CHOPSTICKS 箸” is the first initiative developed by S—3. Curated by Yoko Choy, it brings together 16 creatives from China, Japan, South Korea and beyond to create their own interpretations of chopsticks: 11 product designers and studios exploring context and form, three graphic designers contributing visual responses, and one spatial and one olfactory studio shaping the exhibition experience for its debut at Milan Design Week. S—3 is a platform connecting East Asian design with global ideas and practices, co-founded by Cultural Associates and MANIFESTO.

Five Wood Furniture Pieces Designed by us.

Our Studio is often known for its lighting works and modular systems, yet I first launched my design career focusing on furniture design—creating pieces with minimalist forms and well-proportioned structures crafted in a direct and precise way. I now intend to feature five solid wood furniture projects designed over the past decade, in an effort to demonstrate the diverse design capabilities of the studio.

Showroom The Pagoda Lamps were rearranged in the showroom during the recent Studio Open Days.

According to the configurations of Pagoda Lamps with different tiers, they were placed in appropriate positions in two forms: matrix arrangement and scenario-based display. This showcases their various applications as table lamps, wall lamps and floor lamps in residential spaces, offering visitors to the exhibition hall a more intuitive understanding.
