Quick Look at Acrel’s New EU DC Chargers – 80KW to 320kW

🔹 Protocol stack

They finally included ISO15118 & DIN70121 out of the box – so Plug&Charge works natively, no extra authentication steps for EV drivers. OCPP comes as 1.6J but with a firmware path to 2.0. That’s a sensible choice – 2.0 is the future, but 1.6J is still what most backends actually run today.

🔹 Voltage range

150–1000V DC. Covers both older 400V packs and newer 800V architectures without an external booster. One less box to buy.

🔹 Two underrated hardware features

Optional cable retractor – keeps the cable off the ground, reduces wear and tear. Small thing, but saves operators from replacing cables every few months.

ADA compliance – initially thought this was US-only, but turns out EU public tenders increasingly ask for similar accessibility standards. Good to have if you're bidding for municipal projects.

🔹 Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB)

This isn't marketing fluff. In many European cities, transformer capacity is the real bottleneck. DLB lets you share available power across chargers without upgrading the grid connection – which can cost more than the chargers themselves.

🔹 CE approach

They specified "key components have CE certification" rather than claiming "whole machine" CE. For logistics folks: this typically means lower risk of customs hold-ups, since the power modules and control boards are already pre-cleared.

Also available in both CCS2 and GBT versions – useful for Chinese manufacturers who want to test locally with GBT before shipping units to Europe.
