Hovenia Dulcis Seed, known as Ji Ju Zi (ๆžณๆค‡ๅญ), has been valued in traditional herbal practice for centuries. Today, one of its key bioactive compounds is attracting growing interest: Dihydromyricetin (DHM).

DHM is a naturally occurring dihydroflavonol found in Hovenia Dulcis and other botanicals such as Ampelopsis grossedentata. It is considered one of the important active compounds and quality markers of Hovenia Dulcis Seed extract.

Why does DHM matter?

Research has highlighted its potential in liver protection and alcohol metabolism, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Emerging studies have also explored its role in uric acid metabolism through xanthine oxidase (XOD) inhibition.

This makes Hovenia Dulcis Seed extract particularly interesting for liver wellness and alcohol metabolism supplements, functional beverages, and antioxidant-focused formulations.

From an ingredient perspective, the key is not simply choosing Hovenia Dulcis Seed extract.

It is about defining the right DHM specification for the intended application.
Because a good botanical ingredient is not just about the plant source โ€” it is about the active compounds behind it.

-When Floods Make Headlines, the World Discovers China's Jasmine Capital

In recent days, flooding around the Liulan Reservoir in ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜‡๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚, ๐—š๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜…๐—ถ, has drawn widespread attention across China.

While the headlines focus on the disaster, they have also drawn attention to a place that many international buyers may not knowโ€”but probably should.

There is a saying in China's jasmine industry:

This isn't just about scale.

The region's warm climate, abundant rainfall, fertile soil, and decades of cultivation experience have created ideal conditions for producing fragrant jasmine blossoms used in tea, essential oils, perfumes, cosmetics, and botanical extracts.

For companies sourcing jasmine ingredients, the growing origin matters.

Just as wine reflects its terroir, botanical ingredients are also shaped by their environment. Climate, soil, water, and cultivation practices all influence the consistency, aroma, and quality of the final ingredient.

Natural disasters also remind us of another important reality:

Understanding where ingredients come from isn't just interestingโ€”it's becoming an important part of responsible sourcing and long-term supply chain resilience.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the recent flooding, and we hope the region recovers quickly.

Sometimes, knowing the origin helps us appreciate the ingredient even more.

Origin Matters #
Min County, Gansu โ€” Where Mountains Nurture Medicinal Herbs

Many people know Min County because of Angelica Root.

But few realize this mountainous region is home to a wide range of traditional medicinal herbs.

With elevations exceeding 2,000 meters, abundant sunshine, cool temperatures, and significant day-night temperature differences, Min County provides an ideal environment for growing many botanical ingredients valued in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Among the herbs cultivated here are:

โ€ข Angelica Root (Angelica sinensis)
โ€ข Astragalus Root (Astragalus membranaceus)
โ€ข Codonopsis Root (Codonopsis pilosula)
โ€ข Radix Hedysari (Hedysarum polybotrys)
โ€ข Chinese Rhubarb (Rheum palmatum)
โ€ข Licorice (Glycyrrhiza spp., in surrounding suitable areas)

For centuries, growers have adapted cultivation practices to this unique mountain landscape, creating a region widely recognized for producing high-quality medicinal herbs.

In traditional Chinese herbal medicine, this is known as Daodiโ€”an authentic growing region where geography, climate, and cultivation history come together to produce herbs with consistently recognized quality.

For ingredient buyers, origin is becoming just as important as specification.
Two extracts may share the same assay on a COA, yet the quality of the raw material, cultivation practices, and growing environment can still make a meaningful difference in consistency.

That's why more formulators today ask not only:

โœ” What's the specification?

But also:

โœ” Where was it grown?

Sometimes, the story begins long before extraction.

Ingredient Insight Flower Powder

Is Color the Real Reason Brands Choose It?

A buyer recently asked me about Roselle Flower Powder.

At first glance, the answer seemed obvious.

Most people associate Roselle with its vibrant red color, making it an attractive ingredient for teas, beverages, and functional foods.

But after discussing Roselle with beverage and nutraceutical brands, I noticed something interesting:

Color is often the reason buyers discover Roselle.

Yet it is rarely the reason they finally choose it.

When brands look for natural red ingredients, there are already many options available. So what makes Roselle stand out?

The answer lies beyond appearance.

Its naturally tart, fruit-like taste creates a refreshing sensory experience that works well in herbal teas, functional beverages, gummies, and powdered drink mixes. Unlike some natural coloring ingredients that only contribute visual appeal, Roselle actively participates in the product's flavor profile.

At the same time, Roselle aligns with several trends that continue to shape the market:

โœ” Clean-label formulations

โœ” Plant-based nutrition

โœ” Botanical wellness

โœ” Antioxidant positioning

โœ” Naturally colorful products

This combination gives brands more than just a color solution. It provides an ingredient that contributes to both product formulation and product storytelling.

From my perspective, the growing popularity of Roselle is not driven by color alone.

The color may attract attention.

But its flavor, botanical identity, and marketability are what make brands choose it.

Roselle is not simply a natural coloring ingredient.

It is a botanical ingredient that delivers color, flavor, and consumer appeal at the same time.

Pine Pollen Powder
When "higher specification" isn't always the better choice

At exhibitions and in product inquiries, I often notice an interesting pattern.
When buyers hear the word "pollen," many immediately ask:
"Do you have an extract version with a higher active content?"

It's a reasonable questionโ€”but for Pine Pollen, it may not always be the right one.

๐ŸŒฒ Pine Pollen is valued for its natural nutritional profile
Unlike many botanical ingredients that are primarily purchased for a single marker compound, Pine Pollen is often selected because of its naturally balanced composition.

It contains:

โ€ข Amino acids
โ€ข Proteins
โ€ข Vitamins
โ€ข Minerals
โ€ข Polysaccharides
โ€ข Natural flavonoids

For many brands, the appeal lies in preserving this complete nutritional spectrum rather than concentrating one particular component.

๐ŸŒฟ Why many brands prefer Pine Pollen Powder

In the market, there is sometimes a tendency to assume that extracts are automatically superior.

However, many Pine Pollen productsโ€”especially in Asiaโ€”are formulated using broken-wall Pine Pollen Powder rather than highly concentrated extracts.

The reason is simple:

The product concept focuses on whole-food nutrition and natural wellness rather than delivering a single highly concentrated active ingredient.

For this application, maintaining the original nutritional matrix can be more important than increasing extraction ratios.

๐Ÿ’ก The real question isn't "Do I need an extract?"
A more useful question is: "What product story am I trying to build?"

If the goal is:

โ€ข Daily nutrition
โ€ข Natural wellness
โ€ข Functional food applications
โ€ข Traditional botanical positioning

Then Pine Pollen Powder is often the preferred choice.

If the goal is:

โ€ข Standardized active compounds
โ€ข High-potency supplementation
โ€ข Targeted functional claims

Then an extract may deserve consideration.

๐ŸŒ Market observation

In recent years, consumer interest has shifted beyond isolated active ingredients.

Many brands are increasingly exploring ingredients that retain their natural composition and traditional heritage.

Pine Pollen fits well within this trend, particularly in:

โ€ข Functional nutrition
โ€ข Healthy aging formulations
โ€ข Natural vitality products
โ€ข Traditional botanical supplements

๐ŸŒฟ New Season Matcha 2026 โ€“ Now Opening for Early Sourcing

From a procurement perspective, the transition into a new harvest season is always a critical sourcing window for Matcha buyers.

Our 2026 Matcha batch is now approaching official release at the end of this month.

๐Ÿƒ Why this sourcing window matters

In the global matcha supply chain, the new harvest period is the point where:
โ€ข Raw material quality is at its peak
โ€ข Color and umami profile are most stable
โ€ข Supply allocation is still flexible
โ€ข Early buyers can secure preferred specifications

Once the season enters full distribution, consistency and availability become more limited across grades and lots.

โ˜• Application-driven grading system

To support different formulation needs, our Matcha is structured into three procurement-ready grades:

๐ŸŒฟ Ceremonial Grade
For traditional preparation and high-end tea applications
โ†’ Deep umami, smooth taste profile, refined aroma

๐ŸŒฟ Premium Grade
For modern beverage development and daily use products
โ†’ Strong green color, balanced taste, good solubility in lattes

๐ŸŒฟ Culinary Grade
For food manufacturing applications
โ†’ Stable color performance in baking, desserts, ice cream, and functional blends

๐ŸŒ Market insight from procurement side

Current sourcing trends show clear shifts toward:
โ€ข More stable year-round supply planning
โ€ข Higher focus on beverage formulation compatibility
โ€ข Demand for consistent color performance in milk systems
โ€ข Clean-label positioning in functional food categories

This makes early-season allocation increasingly important for product development cycles.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Availability & sourcing support

The new 2026 harvest Matcha will be available for shipment at the end of this month.

We are currently supporting:
โ€ข Specification matching based on application
โ€ข Sample preparation for formulation testing
โ€ข Early allocation for stable supply planning

๐Ÿต Ingredient Insight โ€“ Matcha Season Update

Procurement timing defines supply advantage. Specification defines product success.

Ingredient Insight #01 โ€“ Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

โ€”โ€”Matching the right extract to the right application

A client once asked me:
โ€œCan you recommend a Turmeric extract spec?โ€

Before replying, I checked one key point: what is the final product form๏ผŸ
Because Turmeric is not a one-standard ingredient.

1: For water-based products (drinks, shots, gummies):
We usually recommend Turmeric Extract 10โ€“20% Curcuminoids

1) Water-compatible / better dispersibility
2) Balanced potency
3) Suitable for daily wellness formulations

So for Turmeric Extract, we need to use the water-soluble spec of 10โ€“20% Curcuminoids.

2. For capsules or oil-based systems:
Curcumin 95% (USP Grade)

1) Oil-soluble
2) High potency
3) Premium anti-inflammatory positioning

But currently higher in cost

๐Ÿ’ก Key point:
10โ€“20% = water system
95% = oil system

The right choice depends on how the ingredient is delivered, not just its strength.
