Translating the garden house ideal into a sanctuary in the clouds, this design reimagines the home from a macro perspective, creating a modern sky mansion unconfined by physical limits.

Anchored by classic French proportions and symmetry, the layout embraces a minimalist lens. Lightness and negative space capture the quiet ease and romance native to Shanghai's historic garden homes. Free from unnecessary ornament, the home relies on fine natural materials like Annie White marble, hand-laid mother-of-pearl, and Calacatta Viola stone. Changing sunlight and tactile textures speak to a subtle, deeply personal luxury.

A symmetrical central axis guides the flow from an art-lined entry gallery to a private hotel-style suite. Wide skyline views merge with restful indoor spaces, balancing refined living with everyday calm.

Warmest congratulations to Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing on ranking No.7 in 2026, up from No.14 last year! As it remains the only hotel in Chinese Mainland on the Top 50 list, what an extraordinary achievement.

We are so proud to be part of this project's journey. In designing Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing, CCD focused on protective restoration — retaining the original Hutong texture, quadrangle layout, and historic timber beams, while carefully reusing every brick and tile. Complemented by subtle modern touches and a warm, natural color palette, the space allows guests to truly experience living in history while dwelling in the present.

Rooted in modern quiet luxury, the residence takes cues from the subtle warmth and heritage of its coastal setting. Through a muted palette, tactile organic materials, and poetic light play, the space comes alive as a sanctuary — balancing aesthetic depth, family connection, and effortless ease.

The journey begins at the entryway, where Van Cleef luxury stone sweeps across a curved wall, meeting a bespoke feature scene to establish a gentle sense of order in soft light. Beyond, the open-plan living and dining lounge acts as a fluid stage for connection, layered with rich stone textures and soft plaster to create a warm, understated backdrop. Downstairs, the private lounge centres around a Fendi White stone fireplace, framed by floor-to-ceiling, symmetrically aligned bookshelves that evoke a quiet, contemplative atmosphere for intimate gatherings.

For the SPA, the courtyard view is integrated directly into the wellness experience. Architectural walls, corridors, and water elements reorder the space, forming a gentle transition from the inside out.

Four natural materials set the tone: raw wood, volcanic rock, woven bamboo, and water. Wrapped in soft, atmospheric light, the space gently settles you into a state of total relaxation. Beneath the sloping roof, a low horizontal window in the bathroom pulls the changing sky and distant forest into view.

Drawn from traditional Yunnan mountain homes, Muxingu embraces hillside contours and courtyard living, fused with contemporary minimalism. We connected daily rituals — from arrival and tea tasting to spa treatments and rest — into a fluid journey. Through layered techniques of framing views and sculpting spaces, an immersive, multi-sensory healing experience unfolds.

Crossing the courtyard into the foyer, one enters a restrained space where wooden slats stretch seamlessly from wall to ceiling. Turning into the adjacent reception room, a skylight, a warm red rug, and a few wooden chairs create a quiet interplay of light and shadow, allowing the mind to naturally unwind. In the public areas, soft daylight falls from above, casting a gentle warmth over timber tables, ceramics, and sparse flora. In the corner, an angled niche quietly mirrors the home's pitched rooflines.

Set along the natural slope, two tea rooms are linked by a sheltered gallery corridor. A shallow reflection pool sits on the lower level, while the elevated terrace commands views of the dense woods. Brewing a pot of tea and opening the full-height glass doors lets a soft cross-breeze sweep through the long table, capturing the unhurried ease of mountain living.

Situated in a serene valley on the western side of the Dongfengyun Art Town in Mi'le, Yunnan, Muxingu sits framed by eucalyptus woods and a tranquil lake.

Inspired by the traditional "mushroom houses" of the Hani tribal settlements, the architecture of Muxingu cascades naturally along the hillside contours. Originally constructed as isolated art studios with sharp geometric forms, the architecture lacked the continuous, fluid spatial flow essential for a true healing sanctuary. In response, our redesign transformed the site into a cohesive, immersive wellness journey.

Retaining the original geometric logic, we refined the spatial flow: steep elevation changes were softened with broad, restful platforms, while sunken pockets were transformed into open, light-filled water courtyards. Instead of plain access ramps, we introduced a scenic walking path woven with architectural walls, footbridges, water features, and pocket gardens.

When we first arrived, the land was bare. To restore the quiet charm of a mountain hideaway, we spent three years replanting maples and native greens. Deeply rooted in the local cultural context, the design weaves native materials—volcanic stone, raw timber, woven bamboo, moss, and still water — with subtle accents of local ethnic tiles, creating a gentle, quiet, and deeply soothing mountain atmosphere.

A home is never meant to be mechanically filled with items, but rather woven, layer by layer, with the moments people share together.

Instead of subscribing to rigid stylistic labels, the design draws directly from the rhythms of daily life. "Weaving" serves as the core narrative — not just as a reinterpretation of leather, woodwork, stone, and light, but as a framework that shapes family connections, social gatherings, and quiet solitude.

The tactile experience begins at the foyer with a leather artwork by Louise Heighes, where the warmth of leather, the calm of wood, and the bold presence of luxury stone blend naturally. From the plush, inviting Baxter sofa to the iconic Bottega Veneta woven chair by the window, each curated piece lends a understated, refined tone to the space.

The overall layout is driven by fluidity and openness. From quiet creative moments in the mezzanine studio to relaxed drinks in the lounge, the design effortlessly folds social, creative, and quiet spaces into a minimalist structure.

Located along the shores of Lake Tai, the design draws inspiration from the natural surroundings and classic Eastern philosophy, anchored by the core concept of "bringing the lake inside."

The space takes cues from the subtle reflections of the lake and the fluid motion of Water sleeves. Dynamic curves flow throughout the architecture and overall layout, creating a seamless connection between lively social areas and quiet, private spots. Above and below, circular skylights paired with square water features reflect the timeless harmony of traditional geometry. Blending classic French simplicity with the refined elegance of Suzhou gardens, the design feels both relaxed and timeless.

Anchored by a soft and warm color palette, the interplay of light and shadow highlights rotary-cut wood veneers and Beige marble, crafting a living atmosphere that seamlessly blends French romance with contemporary sophistication.

Modernized French classical moldings frame the walls and key architectural transitions, achieving a look that is understated yet refined. Delicate ornamentation pairs effortlessly with premium materials, striking a balance between French lightness and modern functionality. Every detail is thoughtfully refined, taking you from the expansive living area to the serene private bedrooms, silently defining an elegant, comfortable, and soul-nourishing ideal sanctuary.
