Located in the core of the North Bund, the project traces the roots of Haipai (Shanghai-style) culture while granting it a contemporary rebirth. By deconstructing the Bund's architectural sequences and the layered textures of traditional lilong alleyways, the design establishes the "arch" as its central motif, seamlessly blending historical order with French elegance.

Stepping through the classically inspired porch into the nine-meter-high lobby, the visual focus falls upon the suspended "Tidal Tree" installation, which sets a tranquil and ethereal tone. The lounge area reshapes the space with wavy facades and soft arches, where the interplay of light, texture, and static stone composes a restrained yet enduring spatial narrative. Ascending the spiral staircase, graceful curves hang in the air like a frozen ribbon, bathing every step in a poetic dance of light and shadow.

Tracing the legacy of the Grand Canal and the soul of Hangzhou’s street life, this project distills local identity into a contemporary design language. By weaving traditional crafts such as lacquer, enamel, and bamboo carving into a sleek, modern silhouette, it evokes the poetic essence of Jiangnan. It is a masterful dialogue where Eastern artisanal heritage meets Western classical structures, creating a timeless fusion of art and form.

In this project, we designed harmonious yet distinct spaces for the couple. His study exudes low-key luxury, blending dark walnut, charcoal, brass, and ink art. Her mezzanine salon is a coffee-toned retreat with gold and emerald accents, celebrating the romance of Haipai culture.

Upstairs, the tranquil master bedroom contrasts the structural strength of Shikumen-inspired black window frames with a soft, Qipao-inspired embroidered headboard, beautifully capturing the serene warmth of Eastern aesthetics.

The interior design of this project draws inspiration from the architectural wisdom of historic Haipai (Shanghai-style) mansions. It quietly overlays the lingering vitality of Lilong with a modern sense of ethereal clarity, awakening the memory woven with time and art.

Stepping into the interior, a subdued and elegant color palette of the entrance establishes a sense of Haipai grace and ritual. As the view unfolds into the living and dining rooms, the soul of the space anchors itself in the handcrafted lacquer fireplace.

Descending the stairs, the double-height volume of the lounge constructs a composed and dignified social atmosphere. Natural textures and soft hues flow quietly throughout, where classical undertones and contemporary sensibilities collide.

Throughout the newly expanded workspace of CCD's Shanghai office, the minimalist Eastern aesthetic of "white space" remains a constant thread. On the island in the lounge area, dried branches lean gracefully in rustic earthenware. Alongside an old red brick fireplace and wooden grille doors, these elements enclose a relaxing sanctuary that dissolves the boundaries between work and life, gently nurturing and safeguarding the designers' most precious creativity.

The meeting room continues the dark wood palette, accented by an artistic rattan chandelier that radiates the unpretentious warmth of handcraftsmanship. Tucked behind grille doors along the corridor, the smart material library unfolds into an engaging showroom full of exploratory delight.

By elevating lifestyle above mere design work, draw inspiration from this inviting atmosphere. Ultimately, these profound insights into life are seamlessly channeled back into every single one of CCD’s creations.

Now in its 52nd year, the IIDA Interior Design Competition honors outstanding achievements in interior design and interior architecture, recognizing projects that demonstrate innovation in ideas, techniques, and furnishings.

Located in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, CCD Hong Kong Creative Center reimagines the workplace as a cultural and collaborative hub. Inspired by the city’s urban context and a global design perspective, the project brings together work, dialogue, and reflection, creating a contemporary office.

Located in the Jean Nouvel-designed THE ROOF, the CCD Shanghai office has expanded its existing premises with a new workspace floor, creating a sanctuary of "white space" amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

The new space is grounded in a warm, restrained palette, where coarse textures intertwine with mellow warmth, and the mottled coexists with the exquisite. It utilizes the Eastern concept of wabi-sabi and "white space" to reshape Western minimalism, finding a harmonious balance between the unpretentious charm of handcrafted textures and the restraint of modern design.

Stepping through the doors, the reception area feels more like the living room of a high-end private residence. The overarching warm coffee tones bring a sense of tranquility settled by the passage of time. Venturing deeper, rows of weathered old wooden pillars, retaining their original cracks, guide visitors' sight and footsteps to move forward and linger. As the soft, subdued lighting washes over them, an Eastern poetic ambiance quietly comes to life.

On the building's facade, orange-red brick walls and metal lines intertwined, outlining the classic silhouette and texture of a historic Shanghai mansion. The interior furnishings are curated to create a refined space that not only embodies the modern heritage of old Shanghai, but also caters to contemporary aesthetics and lifestyles. Eschewing ostentatious displays, the design utilizes concise lines, artistic embellishments, and a narrative approach that seamlessly blends the old with the new, ultimately reviving the inclusive, sophisticated, and elegant soul of Haipai (Shanghai-style) culture.

Here, the vitality of nature seamlessly intertwines with the elegance of the space. Generous wood paneling envelops the entire area, its warm and inviting texture soothing away all tension. Refined stone elements outline minimalist contours, while perfectly placed metal accents add a touch of sophisticated texture. In this space, art and life coexist in perfect harmony.

Inspired by Chanel's classic black-and-white aesthetic, the design eschews elaborate color schemes, blending the elegance of French lines with ultimate contrast to manifest the power of essence and a timeless modernity.

From the living room to the study, and into the bedroom, a black-and-white motif flows throughout the entire space. A sense of order is established through the textures of the rugs, the contours of the furniture, and the proportions of the lines, while an understated luxury creates a level of comfort perfectly suited for long-term living.

The design is rooted in an underlying aesthetic of "understated, tranquil, and ultimate luxury," seamlessly blending natural landscapes with artistic living. A ceremonial sense of central symmetry permeates the space. Elements such as lacquer art paintings, unglazed pottery, and wooden screens infuse a gallery-like refinement and sophistication, establishing a stable and peaceful emotional undertone.

Every element exercises profound restraint, stripping away superfluous and cluttered decorations to interpret modern seclusion and Eastern Zen through pure minimalism.
