Wishful Thinking & Ambiguity: The Two Silent Killers of Startups 🚫📉
After two challenging startup journeys, I’ve come to a hard but clear realization: the greatest risks often don’t come from the market—they come from within.
Looking back, my first two ventures taught me expensive but vital lessons:
Venture 1: I relied on "understood" agreements rather than clear structures. We scaled our office before we secured our model. The result? Structural collapse.
Venture 2: I partnered with a close friend, relying on optimism instead of data and contracts. When sales dipped, the lack of boundaries destroyed our cash flow.
Here is the "Hard Truth" playbook I’m taking into my third venture:
🔴 Wishful thinking is a strategy for failure. Assuming things will “work themselves out” is strategic laziness. If you aren’t building your own path, you’re walking on borrowed ground.
⚫ Ambiguity is institutionalized risk. Vague roles and fuzzy equity don’t make you “flexible”—they create fractures. Clarity is kindness.
🟠 Trust is built with documents, not just handshakes. Written agreements aren't a sign of distrust; they are the foundation of a sustainable partnership.
🟢 Diversify or deteriorate. Relying on one client or one channel isn't a strategy—it’s a gamble.
🔵 You are your own Chief Risk Officer. Manage cash like it’s oxygen—because it is. Ask the hard questions before the market asks them for you.

Here’s the reality: People buy a $50 projector, get mad it’s not a $500 brand, and write off all Chinese manufacturing. But China builds iPhones—they have world-class skills!

The problem isn’t lack of ability—it’s the "Platform Trap":

❌ Platforms prioritize lowest prices, burying quality products with thinner margins.

❌ Unfair: A $50 device can’t compete with a $500 pro model—engineering a cheap functional gadget is actually impressive.

❌ Race to the bottom: We hunt for the cheapest, so good manufacturers can’t survive ("bad money drives out good").

🛠️ Don’t forget the people—engineers and workers put in real effort. They deserve fairness. Every product's development is infused with a great deal of entrepreneurs' dedication; their goal is definitely not to manufacture e-waste, but to bring value to users through their products.

Truth: China can make top-tier products. But the market (our clicks, our demand) asks for cheap first.
