Crumbly Cakes in the Box? The Tamper-Evident Fix

You bake it, you box it, you ship it. Then the photo comes back: cracked cake, frosting stuck to the lid, crumbs everywhere. And the box tells you nothing about when it happened.

That's the part bakery owners hate most — not the lost cake, but not knowing where it went wrong.

Most of the time, it isn't the bake. It's the box.

Thin clamshells flex. When a delivery carton shifts or someone stacks one tray too many, the lid lifts. The item slides. A crumbly cake or a soft mousse doesn't need much more than that. By the time it reaches the counter, the corners have collapsed and the lid looks like it's been opened somewhere along the way.

Tamper-evident containers work on a different principle. HB001-55 (19 × 15.7 × 4.5 cm) and HB-16OZ (14 × 11.6 × 6.2 cm) are both PET containers with a snap-lock closure. Press it shut and it stays shut — the lid doesn't ride up under a stacked load, dust stays out, and the bake doesn't dry out before it sells. If someone gets in ahead of your customer, the trace shows.

The stackable design matters just as much in practice. Base and lid nest, so a full tray of containers sits level instead of leaning. Level trays move less in transit. Less movement means fewer broken edges, and fewer broken edges means fewer returns.

On material, it's worth reading the paperwork, not just the label. Both models are PET, and our PPWR product test report — No. 178251114a 001, issued by TÜV Rheinland — covers the specific migration of Bisphenol A, other bisphenols and bisphenol derivatives. That has become a real question since EU Regulation 2024/3190 restricted BPA in food contact plastics. We also hold FDA (SGS, US FDA 21 CFR 177.1630), EU (EN 1186-3:2022), CE and BRC certification.

We're Weifang Chuanhe New Material Co., Ltd. (CHUAN HE), a PET and PP thermoformed packaging manufacturer based in Weifang, China. Our plant runs 20 automatic thermoforming machines, including 4 Kiefel machines, plus an in-house mold workshop, 4,500 tons of monthly capacity and 100% product testing. Minimum order is 10,000 pieces, with 30–45 day lead times, and we ship to buyers across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America.

This isn't a small niche either. Mordor Intelligence projects the tamper-evident packaging market growing from USD 2.56 billion in 2025 to USD 4.26 billion by 2030 — a lot of bakeries making the same switch.

If you're evaluating options right now, try this before ordering: send your heaviest, crumbliest item and ask which container holds it without tilting in the tray. That answer matters more than a catalogue photo.

Which bake have you quietly stopped shipping because it never arrives in one piece?

Tamper-Evident PET Containers: Clear Security for Produce

Watch what shoppers do with a punnet of cherry tomatoes next time you're in a supermarket. They pick it up, turn it over, look at it — and almost nobody opens it.

That little habit is basically what tamper-evident packaging exists for.

Simple version: the container is designed so a closed pack reads as closed, and the clear PET body lets you see the produce inside without touching it. Salads, berries, cut fruit, snacking veg — the material does the showing, the closure does the telling.

CHUAN HE makes this tamper-evident range in four sizes:

HB-8OZ — 13.4 × 12.1 × 3.6 cm
HB-20 OZ — 14 × 11.6 × 7.9 cm
HB-24 OZ — 17.2 × 15.5 × 4.8 cm
HB-32 OZ — 17.2 × 15.5 × 6.2 cm

All clear PET, food-grade and BPA-free, and rated refrigerator safe.

Where it usually pays off:

Retail — a shopper can check the pack without breaking it, and staff can spot one that's already been handled.

Export — when a pallet gets where it's going, an intact transparent container is a lot quicker to eyeball than something wrapped or opaque.

E-commerce — the produce is visible from the moment it's packed, so what shows up at the door looks like what was listed.

These containers come from Weifang Chuanhe New Material Co., Ltd., a PET and PP thermoformed packaging manufacturer based in Weifang, China, running a monthly capacity of 4,500 tons with 100% product testing.

Curious how you weigh this, though — when you spec a punnet, is the tamper-evident closure the deciding factor, or how clear the pack looks on the shelf? Or do you just treat those as the same thing?

PPWR-Certified Bakery Packaging: 4 Options We Recommend

"Is it PPWR compliant?" — that's often the first question EU bakery buyers ask, before price even comes up. Fair enough. PPWR (Regulation (EU) 2025/40) puts packaging documentation on the same table as product quality. If you're supplying cakes and pastries into Europe, your packaging needs paperwork behind it, not just a promise.

Here's what we can hand over: our PET bakery packaging range is covered by TÜV Rheinland PPWR Product Test Report 178251114a 001, issued 2026-08-14 and valid until 2030-08-14. The testing behind it covers global migration, specific migration of metals, SVHC screening against the ECHA candidate list, PFAS, and total lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium content.

Four options buyers keep asking about:

• HB-SP1510 — 16 × 16 × 6.7 cm clear PET container. Square footprint, tidy for muffins, brownies, single-serve cakes.
• HB-7097 — 16.1 × 14.9 × 7.8 cm cake packaging. A little deeper, good for sliced cake and layered desserts.
• HB-32 OZ — 17.2 × 15.5 × 6.2 cm tamper-evident container. The locking tab shows once it's been opened, which matters for delivery orders and self-serve counters.
• HB-MG40 OZ — 28 × 19.4 × 6.8 cm PET tray. For sharing portions, larger bakes, or a few pastries packed together.

All four are PET, high transparency so the product does the selling, and stackable for shelf and cold cabinet use.

A few practical things worth knowing before you order: MOQ is 10,000 pcs, lead time runs 30–45 days, and OEM/ODM is available for size, logo and color. Every batch goes through 100% testing before it ships.

We're Weifang Chuanhe New Material Co., Ltd. — CHUAN HE — supplying bakeries and supermarket suppliers in Europe for over 7 years, with the same work running in North America, Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Sourcing for any of those markets? Send us a message and we'll pull the report pages that match your product line, plus pricing. Email works too: [email protected].

What does your buyer ask for first — the migration test report or the PPWR confirmation? Genuinely curious which one slows orders down on your side.

Stop Scratched Apples and Bruised Berries: How a Rigid PET Tray Solves It

A crate of apples leaves the farm looking perfect. Two days and one border later, a buyer opens it and finds a dozen with flat brown patches.

Nobody did anything wrong. The fruit just moved.

Every time a tray flexes under a stack, or a berry rolls into the one beside it, something gets marked. That's the part of fruit & vegetable packaging that's easy to underestimate — not how it looks on the shelf, but whether it's still protecting anything at hour 40.

Soft trays are usually where it starts. They bow in the middle when stacked, the walls lean, and whatever's inside shifts. A cherry tomato doesn't need much to bruise, and once the skin breaks, it stops being a premium item.

A rigid PET tray works differently. Because the walls hold their shape, the tray takes the pressure from stacking and handling instead of passing it on to the fruit. Items stay where you put them rather than sliding around. That's the boring mechanical reason most scratching and bruising shows up at arrival — or doesn't.

If you want a concrete starting point, our tray model HB-T9576 was built for this. 19.4 × 11.4 × 5.8 cm, thermoformed PET, clear body so a warehouse spot check takes seconds, food-grade BPA-free material options, and rigid enough to keep its form through packing, palletising and transport. It also does bakery duty without complaint.

Most of the people we work with are produce wholesalers, supermarket chains, agricultural exporters, and bakery or food retailers — the ones who eat the cost when a pallet arrives looking tired.

We're CHUAN HE, a PET and PP thermoformed packaging manufacturer in Weifang, China. The tray runs on OEM/ODM orders with custom size, color and logo, MOQ from 10,000 pieces, and we ship to North America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America.

One thing I'm curious about, for the packers and importers here: when a shipment arrives with bruising, can you usually trace it back to a single step — or does it stay a mystery?

PET or PP Bakery Trays? Start With Where It Sits

One question we keep getting from bakery and deli buyers: should the tray be clear, or should it be stiff?

Most of the time, that argument ends once you ask a simpler question first — where does the product sit when a customer actually looks at it?

If it goes into a display case or a self-serve shelf, clarity earns the sale. Take HB-1008: a PET clamshell at 26.5 × 26.5 × 8.5 cm. PET is a food-grade, BPA-free material, so the body stays genuinely see-through. Pastries, sliced cakes and cream desserts read clearly from the front, and the square 26.5 cm footprint suits layer cakes and larger sharing items.

If the tray mostly gets stacked, moved, or run on a MAP line, rigidity is the point. That's HB-221360, a PP tray at 22.2 × 13 × 6 cm. PP gives it a rigid, anti-deformation structure, so it holds its shape when trays sit several high in a cold cabinet or get loaded into crates. It's also listed as compatible with modified atmosphere packaging lines.

So the first real difference isn't "which plastic is better." It's display pressure versus physical pressure.

A few things hold true for both: food-grade material, BPA-free, fine for direct food contact, stackable, and available with custom size, color and logo printing. The sizes are where they split — 26.5 cm square versus 22.2 × 13 cm changes how many facings you fit on one shelf and how deep a stack can realistically go.

Quick way to decide before you order:
- Selling straight out of the case → go clear.
- Stacking, transport, MAP → go rigid.
- Both in your range → split the SKUs by product line instead of asking one tray to do two jobs.

We make both. Weifang Chuanhe New Material Co., Ltd. (CHUAN HE) produces PET and PP thermoformed packaging in Weifang, China, and holds CE, BRC, FDA, EU and SGS certifications. Custom sizes and logo printing are part of the normal workflow, not a special request.

What's your tray doing most days — sitting pretty in the case, or getting stacked to the ceiling?

6 AM in a Supermarket Fresh Department: Two PET Packs

6 AM, and the fresh department is still quiet.

A staff member is already at the counter with a crate of cherry tomatoes, laying them out into shallow clear trays. By the time the doors open, the whole display looks like it was arranged for a photo — except nobody stopped to take one. That's just how the morning goes.

Those trays are HB-T9333 PET trays: 16.8 × 11.4 × 3 cm, low-sided and fully transparent. Low sides matter more than people expect. Fruit sits up instead of sinking into a pile, so shoppers can read the whole display from a few steps away. And staff spend less time re-arranging after every restock.

Twenty steps over, the chill cabinet tells a different story.

HB1720 salad containers — 18.5 × 18.5 × 6 cm — are stacked next to the grab-and-go salads. Deeper body, airtight lid, wide enough for leaves, grains and a few cherry tomatoes without everything sliding into one corner. Shoppers pick one up one-handed on their way to the till. Staff restock them in stacks, not one by one.

Two packs, same material, two different jobs. That's usually the first thing buyers ask about: why not just use one box for everything?

Honestly? A 3 cm tray that holds tomatoes beautifully would bury a salad. A 6 cm salad box would eat up counter space on the produce side. Display space in a supermarket is expensive, and wasting 2 cm of height across a whole counter adds up by the end of the week.

Both packs are made by CHUAN HE from food-grade BPA-free PET — clear enough to read the produce through the pack, sturdy enough to survive a cold cabinet and a delivery run. Production is backed by CE, BRC, FDA, EU and SGS certifications, with 100% testing before shipment.

If you're at the supplier-comparison stage, a few numbers worth asking about: MOQ starts at 10,000 pcs, lead time runs 30–45 days, and custom sizes, colors and logo printing are available if your shelf needs a different footprint.

So, produce and deli folks — what time does your counter get restocked, before or after the first customers walk in?

Bakery Trays That Won't Stack on MAP Lines? Here's the Fix

Ever watched a stack of bakery trays lean like a game of Jenga on the packing table? One bump and the whole tower slides sideways.

That's the part nobody mentions when you're setting up a MAP line. The trays look fine on a quote sheet. Then you load them, gas-flush them, and try to stack them for the cooler — and now you've got wobble, jams at the infeed, and somebody hand-restacking while the line sits there doing nothing.

We hear that story a lot. Most of the time it comes back to the tray.

HB-1912 is a food plastic tray from our trays packaging category, made of PP (polypropylene). It measures 16.8 × 11.4 × 3 cm — a size that suits single portions of pastries, sandwiches, ready meals or pre-cut produce. What actually matters on a MAP line is the rim geometry: trays nest into the one below instead of balancing on top of it. Stackable design, and the rigid sturdy structure keeps its shape once chilled, so a full stack stays square rather than sagging halfway down.

It's also compatible with MAP modified atmosphere packaging production lines. It feeds, seals and moves through the gas-flush stage without the usual fuss.

A couple of other things bakery teams ask us about.

Transport, first. A tray that deforms inside a crate takes the product with it. The rigid structure here is built to reduce that, which means fewer crushed pastries and less repacking before a delivery leaves the yard.

Then display. The tray is clear, so shoppers can see what they're buying on the shelf. It comes as a clear display tray, compartment tray, meat tray, MAP packaging tray, bakery tray or produce tray, depending on what you're packing. Shape, color, embossing and logo printing can all be customized, and we supply direct from the factory, so small trial orders and bulk wholesale runs are both workable.

We're Weifang Chuanhe New Material Co., Ltd. (CHUAN HE). We specialize in PET and PP thermoformed packaging containers, mainly bakery packaging and fruit and vegetable packaging, and our products ship to North America, Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

HB-1912 is typically bought by bakeries and food retailers, supermarket chains, produce wholesalers, agricultural exporters, e-commerce brands, and other food businesses running a MAP line.

So — what's the tray that's given you the most trouble on your line? Genuinely curious, the odd ones are usually the most useful to hear about.

Trays or containers? Two PET packs, two different jobs

A supermarket buyer asked me last week why we ship both trays and containers for fruit and veg. Aren't they basically the same thing?

Not really. The whole difference comes down to two numbers.

Trays Packaging HB-T9333 — 16.8 × 11.4 × 3 cm

Shallow, wide, clear. The shallow depth is the point: one layer of cherry tomatoes, strawberries or pre-cut veg, with the PET staying transparent so the produce does the selling. It works as a clear display tray on a supermarket shelf, stacks neatly in the back room, and is compatible with MAP modified atmosphere packaging lines if that's part of your setup. It also works as a disposable serving tray behind a deli counter.

Fruit & Vegetable Container HB-SG1000ML — 23 × 17.5 × 9 cm

Same PET family, food grade and BPA-free, but deeper and wider. This one is for volume: bulk storage, fridge and cold-room holding, or moving produce from packhouse to store without decanting everything halfway. It stacks, it's refrigerator safe, and the clear body means you can still check quality without lifting the lid.

So the choice isn't really "which is better". It's "which job".

Seen and picked up by a shopper? The tray's shallow profile gives you the facing you want. Sitting in a chiller or riding in a crate? The container's extra depth saves you a second pack.

Both come from Weifang Chuanhe New Material Co., Ltd. — CHUAN HE for short, a PET and PP thermoformed packaging manufacturer in Weifang, China, next to Qingdao Port. Both SKUs take custom size, colour and logo printing, and both ship factory direct, so small trial runs and bulk wholesale orders are both workable.

One thing worth checking early: measure your shelf depth and your crate height before you commit. A 3 cm tray and a 9 cm container don't swap into the same space.
