One important reason is forepart lasting.
During shoe production, the forepart lasting machine pulls and shapes the upper around the front of the last. This process has a major influence on the final:
👟 Toe shape
📏 Fit and internal space
✨ Upper appearance and wrinkles
⚖️ Left/right shoe consistency
🏠Mass-production quality
And it’s not simply about pulling the upper tighter.
Different materials — leather, microfiber, engineered mesh or knitted uppers — have different stretch characteristics. The machine settings and pulling tension need to be adjusted accordingly.
That’s why good footwear manufacturing is not only about having good machines.
It’s about understanding the last, upper material, pattern and production process — and controlling them together.
Small details in production can make a big difference in the final shoe.
