Would you sell a stock or an that you own if its plummets? In March 2021 my company, Turning Point Macro, together with Knari Consulting, run an experiment designed to shed light on how much attention individuals pay to and . As part of the experiment, we have asked this question to 31 volunteers around the globe.

Our finding, published in a paper by Singapore Management University’s Green Finance Centre, has been stark. None of our volunteers were willing to , even though they were paying a lot of attention to other sustainability aspects. For example, 68% of them would and 38% would pay in order to purchase products.

Such a response is not all bad news, however. Divesting means someone else will buy a financial product and simply shifts responsibility for investor action. Instead, an increasingly more popular (and prudent) route is - ie working with/putting pressure on the company to improve its ESG credentials.

What sustainable actions do YOU practice?

In March, my company Knari Consulting and Turning Point Macro (the company of Marianna Kozintseva) run an experiment to understand how much attention individuals pay to , & . During it, we have shared 82 short, sustainability-themed videos with 31 volunteers around the globe, asking for their reactions. We have also conducted two user surveys - one in the middle, and one at the end of the experiment, asking our volunteers about their daily routines. Singapore Management University‘s Green Finance Centre recently published our paper on the experiment outcomes, so we are going to highlight our key findings in a series of LinkedIn posts.

Finding 1. We have found that sustainability is gaining traction worldwide: 90.3% of the users surveyed are now incorporating at least one sustainable practice into their daily routine. Not all sustainability aspects receive the same attention, however. While 68% of the users practice and 52% work on improving of their homes, only 13% check an when in a financial product. Among age groups, show greater commitment to sustainability than the general population in 3 out of 5 sustainable behavior categories

Often I hear an opinion that a job of a consultant is useless and even stigmatic. Like ‘came, gave advice, and left, as they don’t care about the result’. I have never supported such an approach in work, and now I work as a consultant as well, so I have decided to talk about it a bit and show one kind of task, which I have done at the request of several CEOs. And they have been satisfied with the results.

Having experience both in software development and operational management, I can look at the business from different angles and evaluate different aspects. This is why an overall analysis of all processes became highly demanded. I try to evaluate everything that I can touch. Sometimes they call it an audit, but I prefer to call it analysis, this term has a less negative connotation.
