Are we surprised⁉️

Nearly 6,000 Execs Confess: AI’s $250B Black Hole = Zero Productivity Increase

We saw the same movie with Agile 🤦🏻‍♂️

Billions spent.
Transformations launched.
New language. New rituals. New dashboards.

And yet… where was the step-change in performance?

Now AI.

🚩$250 billion invested.
🚩Boardroom obsession.
🚩96% of organisations putting it on the agenda.

And nearly 6,000 executives admitting there’s no meaningful productivity uplift to show for it 🤦🏻‍♂️

Reports also show 70-95% of AI projects in 2025 were not successful.

This isn’t an AI problem.

➡️ It’s a thinking problem.

➡️ It’s a leadership problem.

➡️ It’s a people problem.

Over 70% of transformations fail – not because the framework is wrong, but because of ineffective leadership, cultural resistance, and structural inertia.

And a total misunderstanding of what transformation is about.

We don’t need to adapt to change. We need to change to be adaptive.

Across sectors, 85% of organisational challenges are common. Why? Because they all have one thing in common: people.

Technology amplifies capability.
It also amplifies dysfunction.

If your teams lack:

– Psychological safety
– Critical thinking
– Healthy conflict
– Clear decision-making
– Accountability
– Effectice leadership

AI just helps you make poor decisions faster.

If you want real productivity gains:

📈 Upskill your leadership.
📈 Enable psychological safety.
📈 Develop Applied Critical Thinking as a daily discipline.
📈 Empower and engage your people.

Management drives 70% of team engagement. That’s the leverage point 🎯

❌ Stop searching for silver bullets.

✅ Start building human capability.

Because the organisations that win won’t be the ones with the most AI.

They’ll be the ones with the best thinkers using it.

Are you ready to unleash your people? 🦸🏻‍♂️🦹🏽‍♀️🦸🏼‍♀️🦹🏻‍♂️

Effective Direction brings you the how to get the results you want.

AI investments hit $250 billion in 2024, but 80-90% of companies report zero productivity gains, revealing a gap between smart gadget promises and reality.

Why should execs have all the fun⁉️

We launched retreats aboard sailing yacht Valhalla⚔️ in Cyprus as a space for executive leaders to step back, reset, and reconnect – away from noise, dashboards, and performative thinking.

🌪 It's gone down a storm (not literally), with more retreats lined up for 2026.
But we thought "Why should execs have all the fun and quality learning?"

So we’re opening the gangway...

⛵️Valhalla ⚔️ is now available for:

🔸Teams who want to build trust, alignment, and skills together
🔸Individuals who need space to think, recalibrate, or reset direction
🔸Red Teamers who sharpen best through challenge, friction, and perspective
🔸Those who want to learn to sail – properly – while doing all of the above!

This isn’t a jolly 🏴‍☠️ It’s an offsite with purpose.

Critical Thinking. Adaptive Leadership. Team Dynamics.

Moments that reveal how you think and act under pressure – and how you work with others when it matters.

You’ll leave with:
⚔️ Stronger connections
⚔️ Clearer thinking
⚔️ Practical capability
⚔️ And, yes, real time at the helm

🧭 Whether you’re unlocking potential, building capability, stress-testing ideas, or learning the ropes — Valhalla is your reset at sea.

Time to learn. Space to think. Distance to decide. Rum to drink!

The average organisation wastes 30–50% of its total meeting time. That’s the same as burning one day a week. It’s fair to say the majority of meetings suck!

But they don’t have to. Applied Critical Thinking (ACT) is the game-changer you’re looking for. Simple. Quick. Effective.

1️⃣ Start with “Stop-Breathe-Think”
Before you speak, pitch, or pounce – pause.
🛑 Stop
🌬️ Breathe
🤔 Think
This creates space for intention, not impulse – especially in tense discussions. It allows you to respond, not react.

2️⃣ Use “ESOBAST” in Group Settings
Ensure Everyone Speaks Once Before Anyone Speaks Twice.
You’ll be amazed how much insight is missed when only the confident contribute.

3️⃣ Use “Think-Write-Share”
Silence the loudest voice and ensure everyone in the room is engaged by giving everyone space to:
🔸 Think alone
🔸 Write down their ideas
🔸 Share equally and anonymously
Ideal for generating diverse input before groupthink sets in.

4️⃣ “Triple Filter” Your Decisions
Prioritise actions by testing ideas through:
🔸Impact: Will this matter?
🔸Likelihood: Will this happen?
🔸Ease: Can we do something about it?
This filters noise from value.

5️⃣ Use “Weighted Anonymous Feedback (WAF)”
Need better input without bias or posturing?
WAF enables the wisdom of the crowd and allows participants to vote on ideas anonymously.
It’s fast, inclusive, and reveals where true value lies without the influence of hierarchy or volume.

6️⃣ Apply the “So What?” Tool
Keep discussions focused. Ask:
🔸Why is this happening?
🔸What’s the impact?
🔸What can we do?
🔸So what should we do next?
It grounds the conversation in outcomes, not opinions and rushed solutions.

Bottom Line:

Meetings suck when they’re unfocused, unbalanced, and unproductive. ACT gives you simple tools to change that – fast.

Don’t just meet. Think – Decide – Take action.

Is your team solving the wrong problems – beautifully⁉️

Too many organisations are focused on surface symptoms while the root issues remain hidden – poor communication, groupthink, fatigue, stress, lack of challenge, and invisible norms that quietly derail progress.

And these surface symptoms keep organisations fire-fighting, reacting to the wrong problems on a daily basis, unable to prioritise and solve the right problems.

It’s time to pause, ask the right questions, and unlock what’s really going on.

Our approach exposes blind spots, creates psychological safety, and enables faster, better decisions.

🔍 Surface what matters

🕵️‍♂️ This week's mystery question with Maverick...

Meetings‼️Don't you just love 'em⁉️

Why do we keep having meetings to fix the problem of having too many meetings?

We’ve all been there…

💣Another invite
💣Another hour
💣Another calendar-shaped illusion of progress
💣Repeat

We’re stuck in a loop ♾️

Not because we’re lazy – but because the meeting has become our default problem-solving posture.

Even when the problem is… too many meetings.

But make no mistake, the cost is real 📉

🔸30% of working time is lost in unproductive meetings
🔸Decision fatigue creeps in – we talk more but decide less
🔸Creative thinking disappears – squeezed out by calendar chaos
🔸Culture erodes – meetings become performance, not participation
🔸Leaders drown in meetings instead of driving direction

So what can you do?

Try applying some Applied Critical Thinking (ACT) tools and techniques to your workplace meetings:

🛑 Stop–Breathe–Think before you book – is it essential, or habitual?

❓ Use the So What? tool – why now, what’s the impact, what’s the outcome?

🗣️ Run meetings with ESOBAST– Everybody Speaks Once Before Anybody Speaks Twice

📝 Start with Think–Write–Share – slow the noise, hear everybody, surface real insight

Meetings aren’t evil. But if you let them carry on as they are they are very costly.

Next time you’re tempted to ‘sync’, ask yourself:

➡️ Are we solving problems – or just scheduling them?

The 4 pointers above are just a small part of a whole workshop on how to have better meetings in your organisation. The last organisation where we ran the Meetings workshop freed up 32% of people’s time and got a 22% increase in outcomes in their first month 📈 Put a dollar amount on that! 💰💰💰

Result you can count. Wins you can feel.

Discover how to turn your meetings into effective enablers, nit the time-drain of doom they currently are: https://www.effectivedirection.com/contact 👀

Do you want results you can feel and wins you can count? Do you want to learn the essential skill that is most lacking?

If so, then join us on the 16th September.

The ACT Practitioner Course isn’t just about thinking better – it’s about performing better.

Improved Capability & High Performance
We equip leaders and teams with the tools and techniques to make faster, sharper decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and unlock the untapped potential in every meeting, workshop, and initiative.

Direct Challenge & Hard Questions
Create actual psychological safety and enable the uncomfortable truths to be addressed using ACT and the concept of Red Teaming.

What does that mean in real terms?
Quicker, clearer decisions = reduced delays and missed opportunities
Better engagement = less friction, more ownership
Smarter planning = fewer project overruns and course corrections
Strategic alignment = more initiatives completed, not just started

That's ACT in action.

Only 15 seats now available.

Quote origin unknown, but I love it.

Similar but different: “The crew is only as good as the captain”.

This why we need a paradoxical mindset.

Leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room — it’s about creating space for the right voices to be heard.

Too often, decisions are made in echo chambers where hierarchy drowns out insight. But real advantage lies in the perspectives from the edge — those on the front lines who see what leaders can’t.

In today’s complex landscape, Applied Critical Thinking (ACT) isn’t just a competitive advantage; it’s a survival skill.

Leaders who understand adaptive leadership, harness team dynamics, challenge groupthink, and listen with intention build not just stronger crews — they steer more adaptive, resilient, and successful organisations.

If you’re navigating uncertainty – and you are! – ask yourself:
🔸 Who are you listening to?
🔸 Who’s not speaking up?
🔸 What’s it costing you?

Leadership starts with listening. Not passively — but deliberately.
