🦶🚀 Exploring Technologies for Gait Assistance

Mobility challenges are a major concern for older adults, especially those living with or at risk of mild dementia. Fortunately, technology is transforming the way we approach gait training and fall prevention.

Today, gait assistance can include:

🔹 Robotic exoskeletons that support walking movements
🔹 Wearable sensors that monitor gait patterns in real time
🔹 Augmented Reality systems that provide visual step cues
🔹 Virtual Reality environments that create safe, engaging rehabilitation experiences

These innovations are not just futuristic concepts—they are reshaping rehabilitation and elderly care today.

✨ The GaitXR project builds on this technological evolution.

GaitXR (Enhancing Dementia Care: Integrating XR Technology for Gait Training and Mobility Improvement in Elderly Populations) is an Erasmus+ KA220-VET initiative coordinated by CYENS – Centre of Excellence.

The project is developing an XR-based gait training tool designed specifically for elderly individuals in the early stages of dementia, alongside an Educational Programme Manual to train healthcare professionals in its effective use

By combining immersive technology, evidence-based training, and international collaboration, GaitXR aims to:

✔️ Improve mobility and balance
✔️ Reduce falls
✔️ Enhance quality of life
✔️ Strengthen digital skills in vocational healthcare education

Together, we are bringing innovation into dementia care and preparing healthcare professionals for the future of digital rehabilitation.

Looking back to November 2025, our co-founders Christos I Ioannou, DiS, MA, MSc, PhD and Fotos Frangoudes attended SLUSH 2025 in Helsinki, on 19–20 November. It was an inspiring experience—connecting with visionary founders, discovering groundbreaking innovations, and engaging in meaningful conversations with investors at the world’s most founder-focused startup event.

Additionally, we had the pleasure of visiting the Cyprus Embassy in Finland and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland where we held insightful and valuable discussions. We extend our gratitude to them as well.

A heartfelt thank you to eunite Cyprus and the Embassy of Finland in Nicosia for making Startups4Peace Programme and this incredible opportunity possible.

Here’s to new connections, shared innovation, and exciting steps
forward! 🚀✨

We’re excited to share that SENSSOS has been selected as one of the winning teams in the Startups4Peace 2025 Pitch Competition, organised by eunite Cyprus!

The Pitch Battle took place on 10 October 2025 in the UN Buffer Zone in Nicosia, bringing together passionate founders from across the island to showcase bold and innovative ideas.

Throughout this journey, we participated in two intensive bootcamps, gaining hands-on guidance, mentorship, and valuable validation that strengthened our vision. This milestone inspires us at SENSSOS to continue innovating, creating, and scaling impactful solutions.

We extend our warm congratulations to all the teams who took part in this inspiring programme. A special shout-out and best wishes to our fellow winners, Microcheck FSP and Pit-to-table, as they continue their startup journeys.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all the mentors (Mark R, Diane Roberts et al.), organisers, juries (Styliani Petroudi, Tom Kaisla, Burak Berk Doluay), and supporters who have been with us along the way. And a special appreciation to the Embassy of Finland in Nicosia, eunite Cyprus, and GIZ International Services for making this opportunity possible.

On 26th November 2025, we participated in the 15th Annual Scientific Conference of the Center for Applied Neuroscience, University of Cyprus, themed “Innovations in Integrative Neuroscience: Precision Approaches for Cognitive and Psychological Interventions.”

We were delighted to see Gulsu Tecer from our team present our poster titled “Biofeedback Mirror and Cognitive Game for Musicians with Chronic Pain: Usability and User Experience Study.”

We also had the chance to learn about recent research in cognitive, psychological, and non-invasive neuromodulation interventions, as well as their future directions.

A big thank you to all the speakers from Center for Applied Neuroscience, University of Cyprus, King's College London, Maastricht University, and Ghent University for their brilliant research efforts and insightful contributions. Also, thank you Center for Applied Neuroscience, University of Cyprus for organising such a valuable event.

We are very happy to be part of such a comprehensive event and are already looking forward to next year!
