🦶🚀 Exploring Technologies for Gait Assistance
Mobility challenges are a major concern for older adults, especially those living with or at risk of mild dementia. Fortunately, technology is transforming the way we approach gait training and fall prevention.
Today, gait assistance can include:
🔹 Robotic exoskeletons that support walking movements
🔹 Wearable sensors that monitor gait patterns in real time
🔹 Augmented Reality systems that provide visual step cues
🔹 Virtual Reality environments that create safe, engaging rehabilitation experiences
These innovations are not just futuristic concepts—they are reshaping rehabilitation and elderly care today.
✨ The GaitXR project builds on this technological evolution.
GaitXR (Enhancing Dementia Care: Integrating XR Technology for Gait Training and Mobility Improvement in Elderly Populations) is an Erasmus+ KA220-VET initiative coordinated by CYENS – Centre of Excellence.
The project is developing an XR-based gait training tool designed specifically for elderly individuals in the early stages of dementia, alongside an Educational Programme Manual to train healthcare professionals in its effective use
By combining immersive technology, evidence-based training, and international collaboration, GaitXR aims to:
✔️ Improve mobility and balance
✔️ Reduce falls
✔️ Enhance quality of life
✔️ Strengthen digital skills in vocational healthcare education
Together, we are bringing innovation into dementia care and preparing healthcare professionals for the future of digital rehabilitation.
