“OREXI” is a small family run company based in a village in the hills of Paphos. We will travel and have travelled over Cyprus should you require a catered event in Limassol, Larnaca or Nicosia. We began operations in July 2004 due to two separate requests from friends who asked us to ‘cook some of that lovely Lebanese food that you do’ for parties that they were planning. This is the trouble when
you do lots of entertaining at home – people want you in the kitchen at all times…
I myself, prior to moving to Cyprus, had managed an extremely busy Italian restaurant in London for four years. My husband had spent some time working at his brothers’ very popular delicatessen in the heart of Beirut. By the way, if you’re ever in Lebanon, head for “Deli Chef” on Rue Lion, Hamra, downtown Beirut opposite the Presidential Palace – the best Lebanese delicacies in town. Between us, we decided that it was entirely possible to get a catering company off the ground. My husband’s expertise with the spices and marinades and my experience of organising food, chefs and waiters to get a manic weekend night in West Hampstead running smoothly made for a solid balance. As well as spending enough time between the restaurant floor and the kitchen to have absorbed an Italian flavour, I’d also been expertly tutored in the finer arts of Lebanese cuisine by my numerous sister-in-laws! Our first party was greatly enjoyed by all, especially by the friends who’d hired us as they were inundated with positive comments and queries of: “Where did you get them from?” We were lucky enough to have Patrick Skinner, Food and Restaurant Critic present, who proclaimed that it was ‘some of the best Lebanese food I’ve ever eaten’. Since that summer our reputation and popularity has continued to grow. We have gone on to cater for weddings, birthdays, casual lunch buffets, intimate dinner parties, concerts, festivals, charity events, special interest workshops - in fact we can cater for anyone and everyone! However we have deliberately remained a small and intimate company, as I believe that good food needs love and attention. Cooking for 200 plus usually means that quality goes out of the window, which is why we keep to small numbers. We prefer to concentrate on a unique dining experience; a meal to linger in your memory; exquisite flavours to be retained. At “OREXI” we hope to make a difference to your average dinner party.
